My favourite meal as a child was pie crust and peas.

Although Dad worked every hour he could, money was still tight, not that they told us. Pie crust and peas was served on the days when Mam couldn't afford any filling to go in the pie so we had home made pastry (only the best for us and my Mam's cooking was the best for miles around), peas and gravy.

I honestly thought we got it as a treat and looked forward to it, I still remember shrieking with delight on the days we got it.

One Christmas morning, after opening gifts, mother asked what we wanted for breakfast. We all wanted something different and mom decided to grant each of our requests. I choose lasagna, left over from the night before, (it's always better the second day). I got to have my favorite meal on my favorite day! It was so special that I still remember it more than five decades later.

One specific meal: A ham and cheese sandwich on toast with lettuce and Miracle Whip salad dressing.

I was raised on PBJs, pizza and hamburgers. I had a this sandwich while on a train going to my grandfather's funeral. I was probably 8. It was the first time I'd had a sandwich like that. I had no idea such "gourmet" food existed. :-)

I thought I was the one who died and went to heaven!

When I was a kid, my parents did not have much money. Once in a while we used to eat out at the local Chinese.

While my family ordered fried rice, I used to always order steak and chips!

We were not allowed to eat as children. We were not raised by caring parents. If I had to name something it would probably be a baloney sandwich with pickle relish on it.
