How would you feel if someone else had the power to determine whether you would have a penis or vagina, or whether you would like males or females? Do we have the right to be what God (or Nature) intended us to be, or do parents have the ownership rights to our DNA with power to tamper with it at will?

No, parents should not be allowed to choose. God decides what we're going to be and who we're going to love, and that's the way it should remain. For man to exercise that kind of power would be catastrophic; it's like doctors who decide what patients are 'worth' treating and which ones they should let die. It's wrong! All the diversity that makes our population what it is would be lost, people would start choosing more than just sex and sexual orientation, they'd start choosing eye and hair color, athletic ability, and would change everything they could to make what they want, rather than be happy with what God gives them. It's just sad to think that there are actually people who would like to have it that way....

Sorry about the mini rant, but my answer is a resounding NO!! Parents do not have the ownership rights to our DNA, only God does.

I can't speak for anyone else, but personally I wouldn't want to choose these even if I had the opportunity.
I had a wonderful baby son who's growing up to be a really awesome young adult. I can't imagine choosing whether he was a baby girl or baby boy.
And as far as choosing sexual orientation...I really feel that's just crossing the line.

I think we need to do more about educating people on reality and ending ignorance.
We can't determine a child's sexual orientation anymore than we can what had they're oriented toward using, what color hair grows from their scalp or what color eyes they'll have.

I just think we should simply be glad they're alive, healthy and have all ten toes and fingers.
Everything after that can be dealt with, learned, adjusted to or worked with.

Life's a crap shoot...I'm just glad I was given the dice.

hi Prof, it extremely is the 1st question of yours I ever replied, i'm particular you sense as emotional as I do. so some distance as wellbeing genes circulate, i might prefer to do away with genes for issues like Cystic fibrosis (assuming my better half is a service) or Downs syndrome, and different genetic illnesses my schoolin' hasn't taught me. so some distance as skills circulate, each and every of those are the two great, i might like my new child to attain something despite the sphere. i could be pleased with a son, inheritor to the throne, or a daughter to scare her boyfriends, and there is not any sch ingredient as a gay gene (how might it is handed on?) Their phenotype, nicely why mess with some thing this stable finding.

If you want to have kids you should be happy no matter what you have. It shouldn't matter if your kids ar gay or straight, as long as they are happy. I would be more concerned with their health (not blind or deaf, have cancer in their life) and that they are happy, then their sex or sexual orientation. It's not Burger King where it's made your way. Male or Female, brown eyes or blue, 5'6" or 6'5".
