Since "Titanic" was a movie there could be no Jack Dawson on the real Titanic that sank in 1912.
However, the character in the film won his ticket in a card game and boarded as someone else, therefore there would be no record of a "Jack Dawson" only the name he entered the boat with.

No there was not a Jack Dawson on the Titanic, However there was a Joseph Dawson, and even though Titanic's story line was completely fictional, people who saw that movie, often paid respect to his grave.

There is a tombstone with the name 'Jack Dawson' on it in the cemetary where the Titanic victims were buried. However, the 'Jack Dawson' in the movie was completely made-up and fictional. I'm not sure if there was a real 'Rose' but I don't think there was.

There is a documentary which crops up from time to time on the History channel which is titled "The Real Jack Dawson." It could probably answer your question better than anyone, if you can get your hands on a copy.

Back in those times people could purchase tickets last minute so the passenger list would be made once the ship set sail. Since it was done when the ship set sail the list had to have gone down with the ship. Notable people such as the Astor's had family and friends who knew they were onboard to make note of any deaths.

Jack won his ticket in a poker game at the very beginning of the movie. Since he was not a registered passenger he would not have been listed on the passenger manifest.

Because Jack won Sven and Olaf's tickets (the German guys at the beginning of the movie) in a poker game and therefore did not originally pay for them in HIS name. So, there would be no record of Jack because Olaf bought teh tickets.
Hope that cleared things up. :)

The romance between Jack and Rose is fictional, just to give the movie a love interest.
Otherwise it would just be about a big boat that sank.
