On Valentines day this year. Our high school had a fundraiser for a student that was in the Denver Children's Hospital that needed a heart transplant. They announced it on February 7th on our local radio program. We live in a rural community of 5000 people. Each grades(9-12) student council was going to jump in the icy lake at each $250 increment. 9th grade at $250-10th grade at $500-11th grade at $750 and 12th grade at $1000. They were hoping to raise $1000 to get all grades.
To make a long story short the whole state and some people from other states that had heard the story on the news by the day of the jump had raised...This is really cool.
It was on the 14th of February.
They had to cut through 14 inches of ice to get to the water.
It was 14 degrees out at the time of the jump at 2:45pm.
By the end of the jump the money raised was $14,000.
They did have more money come in after that so I'm not sure what the final tally was. Small communities are the greatest!!!
I am glad to announce that Allison did get her new heart on March 13th,2007 and is doing well.
I am still in AWE at what the students of our school, and community were able to do for this couragous girl and her family. I actually had tears in my eyes when they announced the total the next morning on the radio. I was in total AWE!!!
Here's a link to the pictures that we taken that day.

The last time I literally felt "in awe" was when my husband and I went to the Grand Canyon back in 2001. I don't think I ever understood the word "breathtaking" ... until I walked up to the overlook. Pictures ... video ... nothing can do it justice.
My only regret is that we were with another couple who either weren't impressed ... or they just didn't want to spend much time there. We only spent about 30 or 40 minutes at the Canyon ... but I could've stayed hours just watching the shadows and sunlight ... the birds. It was absolutely beautiful.

The day I visited Lake Lugano in Switzerland. I was dead tired from an overnight plane ride, but I couldn't take my eyes off of the lake and the surrounding mountains. Fabulous.

It was the last time I watched a herd of horses (three in this case) run out into their pasture. For a few minutes before they settled down to graze they were running around, playing, being horses.

May sound trivial
I went to a place where tofu is made on the premises. I was given a sample to taste, boy, it was so delicious, it was like nothing I had ever tasted before. I actually closed off everything around me to savor this taste - an absolute magic moment (last week)

about 4pm today...I watched a neighbor argue with a cop and then go to jail. I made my daughter get quiet so I could listen out of my front window and I got perfectly still so I could hear the whole thing. i usually pause in awe when i see extremely obese people in the buffet line shamelessy piling up their plates also and also when i open my daughter's diapers.

This evening when I let my dog in, I noticed something on the rail fence. I got the binoculars and saw that it was a pair of turtle doves. They were grooming each other. So I got the video camera and recorded them.

When my grandfather and I reached the top of the mountain we were hiking, the view was AWESOME, nice clear day, could see for miles, and there was snow on all the mountain tops, and we saw a few animals through the binoculars.

When I saw a pair of Blue Herons walking together at the edge of my yard. They were like a couple, side by side!
