It always helps to make sure you exfoliate your skin properly every day otherwise the dead skin builds up and that definately would not help. Unfortunately there are not many shoes that won't stink when you don't wear socks unless you air them out and don't wear them every day. Try alternating your shoes so that the shoe has a good 48 hour break between wears and leather shoes of course are better than fabric. There is a foot deodorant that you can use as well but it will be better if you have new shoes and use all the steps above:
1. Make sure you feet are clean and dry each day
2. Let your shoes air and dry out completely between wears
3. Wear leather shoes
4. The better quality the shoe the better

Foot odour, like underarm odour, is caused by bacteria. Washing under your arms is easier to do, but the bacteria have a great playground in all the nooks and crannies between your toes.
Regular washing of your feet is about the most you can do unless you have a serious medical problem. But if you did, you would know by now.
Trainers, or sneakers, are inherent breeding grounds because they do not allow your feet to breathe. The only difference wearing socks will make is it tends to absorb some of the smell.
Just about everybody has this problem, but they are not too happy to talk about it.
Wash your feet regularly, dry properly, apply deodorant. Trainers can be washed in an ordinary domestic washing machine, so do not neglect this.

If your sneakers are made of a synthetic non-porous material this could accentuate the problem.
You have smelly sneakers and feet because they sweat a lot and inside of a shoe there is not much space for feet to breathe. Also, that's just the way your hormones work. Eating a cleaner (more fruits, vegetables) diet may help, but most people aren't willing to do that.
Use mineral salt deodorant and baking soda on your feet and in your shoes. You can always moisturize your feet with a lotion that doesn't contain fragrance or mineral oil in it if you find the baking soda somewhat irritating.

Sweat-eating bacteria.
The problem begins when bacteria become attracted to the sweat on your feet and start feeding on it.
The bacteria's excretion has a strong odor that causes your feet to smell bad.
Since each foot has over 250,000 sweat glands in it, and produces over a pint of sweat a day there's a lot for the bacteria to eat.

If you've been wearing the same shoes without socks it could also be bacteria growing from sweat, dry skin, ect. so put some socks on for crying out loud!

Dear Pauly,
Wearing the same socks over and over while your dog has been walking around the house with the socks in his/her mouth can cause this issue...
