Decades ago a lot of scientists believed there was only 3 races of man but since then it is accepted that dividing people up into 3 races is neither scientific or accurate. Indians (from India) are often on their own as well as the native Americans. Some people from India in the past were thought to belong to the Caucasoid race while others were mongloid. Also the darker skin people of the south Pacific were once labled "*******" but no longer. The Ainu of Japan and Souther Kuriles of Russia were Caucasoid but have their own classification now. It's not scientific or accurate since even in the time of written history people have mixed...and created new ethnic groups while others were eliminated due to disease, wars, etc.
And then was the discombobulated classifications used by the South African Govt during aparthaeid. You were either white, coloured or black.
Whites.....Dutch, English, German, most other Europeans and JAPANESE.
Coloured...Chinese, Indians, etc
Blacks.....mostly sub-saharan Africans.
The reason that the Japanese were whites instead of coloured was that the South African govt did not want to anger or make it difficult for the Japanese to do business in South Africa since Japan was the only major economic nation that didn't have an embargo on South Africa. Japan was S.A.'s number one trading partner. The only main trading partner.

Science tells us that man originated in Africa so technically yes. There are only three races of humans negriod, mongoloid, and caucasion. Middle Eastern Arabs are caucasion or "white" as are considered people like from Mexico with dark skin though many of them are mixed race of European descent and American Indian who by the way are mongoloid peoples. In Africa ******* peoples have inhabited the much of the continent since before recorded history but other peoples have inhabited the northern areas of the continent. The Romans were there hundreds of years ago as were the Greeks and many others. Arab peoples are bound to be decended from many of these earlier people as well as those who were there before them just like most of us in America. In the earliest days of sea travel when Europeans finally discovered that they could go down the western coast of Africa and back up the eastern they found people riding camels present in western north Africa ( not to say blacks don't ever ride camels) as well as well established Muslim trading centers on the eastern coast of the contentient to the north. In the south the people were ****** herding cattle along the coast.
In my opinion the term colored means little other than "they are darker than me". Skin color has been used to discrimante against other people for centuries. It not just white/black but suttle differences in skin tone also. I beleive it is simply they are different than me so they must be inferior.

Parts of the middle East (if you are talking about Egypt, Israel and Palestine/Northern Africa) are in Africa so some middle eastern people are from Africa. The middle east is often used as a geopolitical term but the entire region encompasses (to my knowledge North Africa, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria and Iraq. Although Iran is part of Persia, it is often considered part of the middle east.
I don't know what exactly your father means about middle easterners being coloured except that they have darker colour. (I didn't think the word coloured was still being used).

According to a recent study, all homo sapiens are directly related to a primative African tribe. Your dad is refering to pigment levels. Middle Eastern people have more pigment than Europeans and less than Most Africans.
