I am pretty much positive he didnt know that it wasnt real....I dont think he would give it to me if it was fake because he got me a bunch of like...expensive jewelry before but he got really excited giving this to me because i guess...he paid a lot of money for it but im not sure, but i know its not real ...or what he said it was and so should i tell him? in case he got ripped off...or should i just pretend it is real, cause i mean i like it but its not what he said it was....like its 10k not white gold so that makes the diamonds fake too... should i tell him? Thanks

Is he the kind of practical joke boyfriend? if he is then just don't wear it, or tell him.
If not i don't think that you should say anything...if he did think that its real then you might sound a bit ungrateful by saying its not. might kinda hurt him. You don't have to pretend its real or fake...you said you like it right?....so just enjoy it! you like it, so it don't matter if its fake or not really does it? x

You'd better check, first. Ten karat gold is still real gold - and white gold id real gold mixed with platinum. This is often more expensive than "pure" gold. Pure gold is too soft for a necklace - it breaks too easily - so they are commonly made of 9 karat or sometimes 14 karat.

All gold chains will have a small flat disc next to the clasp with the number of karats stamped into it. You'll probably need a magnifying glass to read it. This will tell you if the metal is really gold. As for the stones, take it to a jeweler - most will tell you for free what they are.

If it's fake, then tell him - he might be able to get his money back. And if he knew that it was fake and told you it was real, this will teach him a lesson about lying to you.

PS: Only gold and gemstones are measured in karats, so it sounds like the metal is gold. Just make sure you check the actual necklace - don't trust what it says on the box it came in.

I found your question quite confusing to read but I think I got the jist of it. I would investigate a little more before saying anything, you wouldn't want to wind up with egg on your face if it's the genuine article. Get yourself off to a jeweller and find out how authentic it is. Ask your Boyfriend where he bought it from beacuse you are interested in looking for jewelry for your Mum etc.

If it's genuine then great, problem solved. Alternatively if you think that he has been ripped off then decide what to do about it. Maybe he already knows and bought it because it looked great whatever the material. Maybe he couldn't afford the real deal.

Ultimately, you decide. If he has been ripped off, how significant is the difference between real and fake cost?

Figure out the nicest way possible to tell him. "Babe, I always love the presents you give me. You're really good at finding real gold, diamonds, etc. but I think the "jeweler" was a real jerk this time and sold you a something unauthentic."

You want to tell him in a way that his ego doesn't get bruised but that he looks for the "k" sign on jewelry from now on so he doesn't waste money. He will do better research the next time around and maybe try to get his money back from the cheats and buy you something you both can be proud of.

If the present has been given from heart, is the price that important?? The present shows, that the person, whom you love and who loves you cares and thinks about you, even if there is $ 1- present. I don't understand, why did he tell you the price of the necklace at all?! The necklace is very beautiful and the price of $99 doesn't make it look less beautiful or cheap. $99 is still a lot of money, unless your father is Bill Gates and you got necklaces, which cost millions Dollar.

10k gold isn't too cheap!! I paid $70 or so for a solid 10k gold wedding band at a brand-name jewlers. NO, it doesn't mean the diamonds are fake, unless it's cubic zerconium. Gold-plated jewlery would be cheap!! You're assuming too much.

Before you tell him, take it to a reputable jeweler to be checked. If they say it is fake, then tell him. You can say you took it in for an adjustment and the jeweler discovered it was fake.
If he paid a lot for it, he needs to get his money back.

yeah do tell him about it but make sure you let him know that it doesn't matter about the value you just wanted to let him know about it and ask him where he by it from he might of bought it from a person who sells fake stuff and riped him off thinking its all real... he might want to get his money back and by you something else... give it a try

I would tell him in a tactful way.

Honey, I really hope you didn't pay a lot for that jewlery, because I'm pretty sure it isn't the real deal .

I'd find a way to ask how much he paid for it. If the amount is too much, then tell him it's fake.
