On a recent trip to Homedepot. I purchased some Sequoia Strawberries in a stapled plastic bag. I did not plant them immediately I waited a few days. When I did finally get to trying to plant the darn things I openned the package and found this rubber band jumbled up mess of dirt, roots and shrivled strands. Not like the nice plants they show on the package with leaves and stuff. What should I do return this clump to back to Homedepot or try to plant it and see if the stuff grows?

Plant them....they are roots for the plants on the package picture. Make sure you follow the instructions for the healthiest plants!

Not to burst your bubble as a new gardener, but they probably won't produce berries until next year---and possibly the year after that.

Boycott Home Depot, there are plenty of small nurseries that will sell you well taken care of plants. HD plant specialists are very rarely knowledgable. My lady has a horticulture degree (associates) and has her CNP certification with at least 5 yrs in the industry and has caught HD plant folks lying on numerous occasions. Her garden center also offers 1 yr warranty on any plant they sell and will draw up a SMALL plan for you, FOR FREE.
Home Depot buys grade C plant stock at huge discounts from wholesalers, and does not have the knowledge to take care of them. We get mothers day plants there occasionally because they have a good selection of exotic type plants, and they usually come with fungus gnats or moldy rotted roots.

Home Depot has a guarantee on their plants. Show them the plant and your receipt. They should replace it with another one. Everything will go well. Open the package you get at Home Depot in front of the sales clerk so history doesn't repeat itself. They may have a defective shipment. Have a great spring.

Return it. Go to a real nursery for your plants.

Plant as directed, water thoroughly initially, and they will grow. I am sure they will do well if you take care of them.

I'd take them back and tell them what happened and they would probably give you new ones.
