1. put them in order.
2. figure the average of the top 6.
3. figure the average of the bottom 6.
4. subtract the two averages.
Good to see they're making you learn to do this stuff while you're in sixth grade and your mind is still growing and flexible.

Put all the numbers in order from lowest to highest.

lower quartile = lower quarter
a quarter of 24 is 6

Take the average of the 6 lowest numbers.
Add them together and divide by 6.
This will be the mean of the lower quartile

Now do the same thing with the 6 highest numbers.
This will be the mean of the upper quartile.

Now subtract the answer for lower quartile from the answer you got from the upper quartile and you'll the answer to your question.

Technically the question does not make sense, since the upper quartile is a single number (the median of the scores above the median) and so is the lower quartile (the median of the scores below the median), and you usually do not take the mean of a single number.

nobody is going to just give you the answer if you tell them to... and that is easy you can figure it out yourself. if it's so hard use a calculator or look up the words.
