Jackie Smith leaving the Cardinals for the cowboys he had great stats with the cardinal and easily was a hall of famer.

hes only remembered as a cowboy dropping a TD pass in super bowl XIII. because of that he had to wait 10 years to get to the hall of fame.

Even before the salary cap, it is amazing how many great backs finished their careers somewhere other than where they belonged.
Alot of good examples previously mentioned. Here are a few more bad situations:
Larry Czonka leaving the Dolphins for the WFL and then with the Giants where he took part in the "Miracle at the Meadowlands".
Earl Campbell with the Saints. Not nearly the success earned during the "Luv Ya Blue" era in Houston.
Tony Dorsett finishing his career in Denver. About the same timeframe as Franco was in Seattle.

Definitely Emmitt Smith. Whether you love him or hate him, in everyone's eyes he'll ALWAYS be a Cowboy.

Johnny Unitas would be a close second. I can't even fathom him as something other then THE Baltimore Colt.

Everybody is saying Emmitt Smith or Randy Moss, but I'm sure that the Atlanta Falcons wish that they never lost Brett Favre

Emmit Smith going to the Cardinals and Joe Montana going to the Chiefs. They looked so weird with new uniforms on and just weren't the same.

Homer picks: Franco Harris going to the Seahawks (but we know where his loyalties lie; see: Super Bowl XL, when he came out waving his "Terrible Towel") Yes, it is going to be painfully hard to watch Joey Porter in a Dolphins' uniform. I'll miss the intensity and leadership Peezy brought to our team.

Cheers!

what always saddens me about these situations is younger fans just picking up the game see a side of this "greatness" that makes them non believers in a player.

Lets say a young kid started watching football in time to see Jerry Rice play a couple meaningless seasons to a point where he eventually got cut.... and now this kid is supposed to believe he's one of the best receivers ever?

But Montana to the Chiefs was the worse in the NFL I think. He made that franchise.... a franchise. Though we did get one amazing monday night shootout from becoming a Chief though.

Boomer, Jim McMahon, Montana, Rice, Emmitt, Thurman, Roger Craig, all of them but the one that sticks out the most to me is OJ as a Niner, now that was too much.

Emmitt hands down

Rice was NEVER cut, he RETIRED because he was going to be the THIRD WR in Denver. He wanted to be FIRST or at least Second. Anyway Smith was the worst. He should have retired with class, instead he wanted the record and personal glory.

No doubt that is Randy Moss. He was playing like a future Hall of Famer. Since he has been in Oakland he has played like Laverneus Coles. He is underperforming and can do much better.
