no! its what we call around here a dollar movie. more eye candy than anything else, dont get me wrong, i spent matinee price on it. i also read the history on the battle and the comic book the movie is based on. even seen the original 300 spartans movie. doing that was alot more interesting than the 300 movie. maybe its just the kind of person i am, but i just felt it needed a little bit more depth. way too much hype. pretty movie though.

Don't list to anyone who said it was worth seeing, it is not. Go see Zodiac or rent another film.
Few reasons why:
- Insufficiently written dialogue.
- Awful acting, that didn’t quite flatter the ineffectual dialogue. (The conspicuous British accents didn’t assist in making the film more effective either.)
- Excessive and often unneeded use of the ‘slow motion effect’.
- Over embellishment of creatures that just made the film even more deplorable.
- The poorly chosen music to follow behind the cheesy slow motion marches.
- The scrapbook of laughable erotic behavior.
- The often unneeded ‘Never give up, we are one’ speeches.

After seeing it, I'd have to say it's definitely worth seeing in the theatre. It's going to be hard to translate that to DVD even with widescreen, with all the cinematography.. I'd have loved to seen it on IMAX, as it's playing on IMAX as well but there is not an IMAX theatre near me.

I jsut saw it tonight...As far as epic war stories go, I found it lacking....that one with Brad Pitt a few years ago was much better. It was fairly entertaining, but somewhat anti-climatic.
There also was not a huge amount of attention to detail...for example, the woman playing the queen had an obvius scar on her arm from the polio vaccine she got as a child.....I don't think the Spartans were vaccinating their children!

I don't get how anybody could say Troy is better than 300. 300 could be considered the greatest action movie ever made, and the cinemotography is breath-taking. You would be doing yourself a disservice by not seeing it in the theater.

I have seen the trailer for it more than once and I want to see it. It looks like a real cool movie and you should see it some time.
