Psycho-Cybernetics was first put forth in a book by Maxwell Maltz in the early '70s, I believe. It has more to do with self-esteem than anything else. I read it "'way back when" and personally thought it had many, many good points. It helped me a lot. Just read the book and see what YOU think. Probably you can get it in any library.

If you're familiar with hypnosis, then you've no doubt heard of Master Hypnotist Steve G. Jones. His book, "Ultimate Conversational Hypnosis" has been voted as the best hypnosis course ever made. The book is also available in electronic format at: http://www.hypnosistocontrol.net

If you want to get an edge in everyday communication and lead other people towards your goals this is a must read.

For over 40 years, Psycho-Cybernetics has roused the
attention of movie stars, amateur and professional
athletes, politicians, artists, coaches, teachers and
musicians. When the 1973 Miami Dolphins went 17-0, many
of their star players used this system. Giant companies
still urge their salespeople to read it. Still today,
whenever you see someone at the top of his or her game,
whether he or she is a superstar salesperson, a
millionaire entrepreneur, a highly loved teacher and/or
minister - chances are excellent he knows and uses
Psycho-Cybernetics.

It deals with the two Self-Images in every person.
It is a way to de-hypnotize yourself from false
beliefs, and to build a powerful self-image.

The philosophy of the book appears to be based on what
literature critic Harold Bloom refers to as American
gnosticism, i.e. what he considers to be the religion
of Ralph Waldo Emerson and William James as opposed to
traditional Christianity. Others have referred to this
as Transcendentalism.

Dr Maxwell Maltz wrote the bestseller Psycho
Cybernetics. Originally a Plastic Surgeon, Maltz
noticed that it took 21 days for amputees to cease
feeling phantom sensations in the amputated limb. From
further observations he found it took 21 days to create
a new habit. Since then the '21 Day Habit Theory' has
become an accepted part of self-help programs.

Brain circuits take engrams (memory traces), and
produce neuroconnections and neuropathways only if they
are bombarded for 21 days in a row. This means that our
brain does not accept ‘new’ data for a change of habit
unless it is repeated each day for 21 days (without
missing a day).

Sometimes it is said to be connected with astrology:

Psycho cybernetics can be applied with much more ease
While most modern day astrologers are happy with
interpreting the horoscopes of their clients and giving
them advice, the ancients knew very well of the power
that they were capable of drawing from the stars in
psycho cybernetics can be applied with much more ease.
Therefore, knowing of their personal skills and
experiences, they correctly pointed out the the wise
rules the stars. Astrology, for them, was a lot more
than just giving some advice of how to adjust to the
will of the planets. It was truly "magic" when they
used their knowledge to harness the stellar and
planetary energies. Consequently, their clients were
capable of psycho cybernetics can be applied with much
more ease Taking control of their attitudes, skills and
energy levels Having a powerful biodynmaic farming

Matt Furey says he was approached by Dan Kennedy, a wildly
successful speaker who laid all of his success at the feet
of Dr. Maltz' Psycho-Cybernetics, and now publishes and
teaches a system called 'Zero Resistance Living'.

Zero Resistance Living began with the work of 5 authors who
published a book titled, 'Zero Resistance Selling': Dan S.
Kennedy, William T. Brooks, Matt Oechsli, and Jeff Paul and
Pamela Yellen, which focused on improving self image in sales

The essence of the technique is simply to devote 15 minutes
a day to the formation of any habit you wish to establish,
and do this faithfully for 21 days. By the fourth week, it
should actually be harder not to engage in the new behavior
than it would be to continue doing it.

This applies to any type of habit, whether it is a physical
practice or a way of perceiving something, such as self image.
In Zero Resistance Living, they talk about changing your self
image in "the theater of your mind" for 15 minutes a day, for
21 days.

It will also help to establish the habit if the behavior, such
as jogging, is performed at the same time of day every day.

Other senses can be utilized to establish the habit. For
example, if you want to establish the habit of meditating,
you can reinforce the practice by wearing the same clothing,
burning the same incense, occupying the same location, and
assuming the same posture.

The more senses you can involve in the new habit, the more
likely it is to become ingrained in the neural pathways,
so, even if you're working on your self image in a mental
construct, it's helpful to use all the faculties of your
imagination to include sights, sounds, smells, and the
senses of feeling and taste to strengthen the image which
you come to associate with your new self image. In other
words, make it seem as real as possible.
