I'm serious. I don't want my daughter to feel sad that her dress is just a regular dress if everyone else shows up in more "poofy" full dresses. Hers is just simple, but sparkly and more fitting than full. Please write if you know the proper way to dress for prom. Thanks!

No, it does not have to be poofy. Wear a dress that flatters your figure and that makes you feel beautiful! When you feel beautiful you exude confidence and you will be radient at your prom. Have fun!!

I think more girls wear sparkly and fitting than poofy these days. My prom dress was a form fitting, and most of the other girls at my school had similar dresses. That was five years ago, but i think most girls go for a more sexy, elegant look rather than poofy. Whatever she's most comfortable in is fine, ask her what some of her friends are wearing.

Okay, well as a teen, I consider myself well informed on the subject. I know that in my area it all depends on which prom it is. Junior prom it's all about a great looking dress, but doesn't need to be a full gown. Junior prom is more a chance to show your unique style, and a little glitter or sparkle doesn't hurt ;). But for Senior prom everything changes, it's all about gowns at this point. Everyone want's to have the biggest and best dress. I know personally if I showed up to Senior Prom in anything but a big, full, fluffy dress, I would get looks. In my area having a fuller dress would definately be better for Senior Prom. So that's my oppinion which is based on my own, and my friends experiences. I hope your daughter picks a dress that's perfect for her and has a safe and wonderful prom!

I know quite a few young ladies who've dressed in sparkly sheaths. Your daughter should be fine, but just in case your area is different than mine, perhaps check the last few yearbooks' worth of pictures for typical prom dresses. I don't think poofy is necessary at all!

Poofy dresses went out in the 80's...the dress sounds beautiful....look at like Teen Magazine, Jane all those girly teen mags and they will show u what is in...also have her ask her friends, let her go shopping with them too. It's sooo fun when everyone goes shopping together. Oh I went to at least 10 proms, mine and friends and boyfriends. They are sooo FUN..your a sweet mom for being converned. Have her get her hair and nails done, makeup too unless she knows how to do it, or u do. Do whatever you can to help her make it a special day! :) Sparkly is soo pretty! :) and fitted is soo nice too! :) Wish her a wonderful prom for me! :) kudos to you for being a great MOM!

whatever makes her happy....if it's form fitting then let her wear it...would you want to be seen in a poofy prom dress....there really isn't a proper way to dress for prom, just as long as she wears something....but I'd suggest form fitting to poofy any day!

I have two daughters who went to 2 proms each. They both wore elegant evening dresses as did their friends. I don't think there is a wrong answer here...I think it is whatever makes a girl feel beautiful.

Just tell your daughter that the dress she is wearing is beautiful and her wearing it will even more beautiful. (If she is still sad then tell her that at her prom she will be the most unique one there.)
