As a white female affirmative action would benifit me would it not? I still feel strongly that I should earn my way through our society minority or not. If five people can be accepted doesn't it make sense that the top five scores make the five and not a random minority to be thrown in just because of their race or sex. Doesn't that make it more racist or sexist? With out any racist remarks I'd love for some arguement concerning why affirmative action should or should not exist.

i'll tell you why it shouldn't exist. because it is nothing more than legal discrimination.

not all white males are rich and priviledged. i am a white male and i can barely afford my bills and have to struggle month by month just to put food on the table. plus, i have to put up with all the racial slurs and nasty remarks from the blacks i work with. if i said the same things to them that they say to me, i'd be out of a job. but they can say whatever they want.

since i'm a white male, i'm automatically expected to take unfairness with a grain of salt. if i don't i'm a "racist" or "angry white male".

i thought that the civil rights movement was supposed to make everyone equal and give everybody the opportunity to succeed and pursue their happiness. but all it's done is favor certain groups over others while taking away our rights.

Affirmative action should NOT exist. As a white male, I have been passed over for jobs even though I was more qualified because a minority was applying for the same job. In one case, the secretary in the HR office told me in confidence that that was the SOLE reason I did not get the job. She felt sorry for me. Affirmative action IS discrimination based on race or gender, the very thing it's supposed to prevent!

As a white female Affirmative Action benefits you more so then Blacks or Mexicans.

I believe the reason why white men hate AA is that it gives women the ability to be more independent, no more barefoot prego do what I say because I'm the bread winner.

For people complaining about this system, I don't feel sorry for you. Whites still make more money then blacks even if they have the same education level and do the same job.

Whites still get better interested rates on their loans than blacks even if they make the same income and have the same credit scores.

So when these trends are reversed then get rid of AA.

Affirmative Action came into play partially because, using your example, the best five weren't always accepted, only the best five whites. On average, white males still earn more than black males and still obtain more upper-level jobs, so there is still reason for it.

To be honest though, nowadays I think this is more related to poverty & lack of educational opportunities than race.

To be fair, affirmative action isn't going to prevent anyone from succeeding. I've heard people blame affirmative action for not getting a job or not being accepted into a certain college, but that's ridiculous. For every one spot reserved for a minority there are many others available to everyone, and if you're not good enough to earn one of those spots then how can you assume you were good enough at all?

I am all for affirmative action. If one or two whites get passed over here and there, I simply say what they have been saying to blacks for decades... get over it, pick yourself up by the bootstraps and move on.
If whites can't succeed in a system that was created for them to succeed, then they should stop whining, get a better education and strive to do better without the assistance of good ole boy networks.
