It always seems to me that people who have Sat Nav have it on just for the sake of it. If that isn't true then there's a hell of a lot of people out there driving around without much idea where they're going. I question whether they should be given a driving licence in the first place if they are so directionless. But seeing as they do have one (I suppose) then it must be safer for them to be given some help in finding their way around, rather than just being let loose to lurch around the highways completely clueless

I have sat nav and i think its the best invention since slice bread, for a start you don't have to keep stopping to look at a map, secondly you don't have to look at the screen at all as it tells you verbally where to go and thirdly its save a lot of time getting lost and trying to find the right route again. None hands free phones are the biggest danger to drivers and road users and i can confirm the poor standard of driving while people are busy chatting away on them, and not paying attention to their driving, I've seen so many near misses with them, in fact i wished they'd brought the laws in about talking on the phone a long time ago because since the laws change driving standards have improved no end. I do a lot of driving for a living, and when i see someone still chatting away without hands free, then i do wish the police would pull them up, ok they don't need to fine them, but just caution them would be enough to make them stop it.

I do not think it is as dangerous, however, it is a distraction. On a par with listening to music, or talking to a passenger. However, if someone alters the route whilst driving - yes that is as dangerous. As long as the screen is facing them and they don't have to look away from the road.
I really get cross when I see people on their mobiles whilst driving. Some of them do extremely tricky manouvers at the same time. I am sure if one of their children or a close friend or relative were to get killed by someone on a mobile phone whilst driving - they would go NUTS and want revenge.

What a load of rubbish. Its people who disagree that make living in this country pathetic.... Ive owned a satnav since they come out. You don't have to take your concentration off the road at all, if its set up correctly. Its nothing like a phone which you have to hold with one hand, and concentrate on what the other person is saying amongst the traffic noise... The satnav in fact prevents accidents by giving the driver advanced information as to his positioning and leaving junctions. It keeps you in the correct lane when approaching, such as two motor ways that join. Your eyes do not leave the road, and your concentration is not lost......"Dont knock them untill you have used one and understand it"....

It is just as dangerous. But since there is really zero danger for each of them that is not a problem (unless you are some kind of technophobe who sees danger in any modern invention).
