Think of the X-Men 3 scenario. A "cure" is created for mutants, and even though mutants are voluntarily lining up to get it, Magneto's gang attacks. They say they don't need a cure, so no one should get it. But, there were some who wanted to change.
This is something we see in society as well. Alcoholics and gays come to mind. Both are groups that some people want out and seek help, while the others get mad about it and attack. I don't understand this concept. If someone is unhappy, why should they be attacked for seeking to change their lives? Do they not have the right to change as much as others have the right to stay?

The answer here is simple. Those who get mad at people who want to change their lives for the better are themselves unhappy, and it's a classic case of the "crab syndrome". For them to watch someone else rise up out of their misery only makes them acutely aware of their own misery. And as the saying goes, "misery loves company". This is especially true in the case of alcoholics (I grew up with an alcoholic). If you have two alcoholics and one tries to change, the other will feel threatened because of the codependent nature of their interaction with each other. You're right, though. People who want to change for the better should definitely go for it. Those who get mad and attack are only doing them a favor. They expose their own weakness of character and give the person who changes a checklist of who to cut off in order to have a better shot at recovery.

It seems to me that people can't understand that everyone has the right to live and change as it pleases them, so long as it isn't harming others. Freedom of choice is a central key to existance, and needs to be respected. What you ask has more to do with people trying to control others, rather than respecting their rights to live. Proof is how the person doing the complaining would act if the other person forced them to not do what they want, wanna bet they don't like it or won't put up with it?

I believe that your right to change is equal to my right to stay the same... My mother used to say that a person's rights stopped at the other fellow's nose. In other words, I have the right to do as I please as long as it does not harm you. I have the right to swing my fist as long as it does not contact your nose-lol. I know what you mean though, it's like today's politics - every one seems to get so angry and so serious when trying to state their point of view. And it appears that people are less and less tolerant of each other. We need to remember our bill of rights and that you have the same rights to pursue your happiness and I have to pursue mine. Thanks for the good question - It was me who starred it -k-

The people who get angry are insecure and lack confidence. They won't try anything new; they get stuck in a rut.

The people who change are healthy and are looking to better themselves.

The world should put more effort into accepting instead of curing the "bad seeds." I don't get mad about people wanting to change us, I don't get mad at those of us who want the change. I get mad when those of us that choose not to change are still tormented to seek it. When we accept ourselves for who we are the rest of the world should, after all, it's our life, not theirs.

Because people believe, right or wrong, that change implies that those who try to change are better than they are. People don't like to be told, or think they are being told, that they are less than others.
