Grading Procedures:
There will be FIVE in-term exams (100pts each) and a final (150pts) in this class. The exams will be entirely in the multiple choice/scantron format. The final will be comprehensive. Class attendance is not mandatory; however, daily quizzes will be given for five points each. There will be no make-up exams without PRIOR approval and no late assignments will be accepted. A semester maximum of 40 points extra credit will be allowed. ABSOLUTELY, NO EXCEPTIONS TO THE RULES! YES THIS DOES MEAN YOU.

Exams are each worth 13% of your grade for a total of 65%
The Final Exam is worth 20%
Participation in class is worth 1%
In class quizzes are the remaining 14 %

Course Evaluation:
Evaluation of the student will be based on the departments' grading scale as follows:
A=90-100
B=80-89.99
C=70-79.99
D=60-69.99
F=0-59.99

How would I go about calculating my grade for my class? I was okay until it went into the stuff about precentages... thanks

Lets say I made an 87 on one exam, a 0 on another, and made a 70 for the remaining three exams. On the final I made a 80. I made 40 points for extra credit...
Out of 30 daily quizzes I missed 10, but made 5 points on the other 20.
How do I calculate my grade?

I computed a grade of 69.776% a D. Congratulations you snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. That 0 on the test really killed the grade and blowing off 10 classes didn't help.

Total points on test out of possible 500 = 297 which is 59.4%
I added your 40 point extra credit to your test scores
(297+40) = 337
337/500 = 67.4%

Class participation I figured that if you missed 10 out of 30 classes the best you could get would be 66.6% attendance. You can't participate if your not there.
You also got a 66.6% total on your quizes (20x5 =100)
100 points out of a possible 150

Now we weigh the above scores using the percentages which you said you had trouble with.

Exams 67.4 x .65 = 43.81
Final 80 x .20 = 16
quizes 66.6 X .14 = 9.3
participation 66.6 x .01 = .666

Add these up and you get 69.776%

HAD YOU GONE TO JUST ONE MORE CLASS.
You would have taken an additional 5pt quiz and been in class 70% instead of 66.6% your final grade would have been 70.3% a C !!!!!

How did you do in each section?
Lets say i got 90 on my first in term exam and then later 89, 99, 95, 98...
Then on the final i got 142.
i got 100 on each daily quizz, and attended them all.
and i did the 40 points extra credit.
so the extra credit makes up for the exam questions i missed, and it brings the final score up to 150 and i am left with three extra credit points. So up to now i have 100 percent in every thing...plus the 3 extra points.
now since i did all the quizes that is 100 too. So my grade is an A.

Participation in class is the unknown because you are at the whim of the teacher or worse if you never participated in class. So you have at lease a 1% error or margin in whatever you figure.
