Personally, the things I look for in a good PC are the following;

I like to know the processor is an Intel Pentium 4 or newer, and that you have a seperate graphics card installed (not onboard/shared graphics)
a decent amount of RAM (no lower than 512 MB)
enough hard drive space

as for makes of computer, they all make cheaper and dearer models....just check whats in them really.

I am currently looking for a new PC myself and have found a couple of great sites which you can choose exactly what you want in your PC and they will build it to your requirements. The prices are much better than buying package deals from the shops too......have a search on Google - you'll get much more for your money if you choose to do it this way!

another tip - always make sure your operating system (windows) master CDs are included when you buy a computer!

It's hard to say because a lot of manufacturer's use very specific parts and don't tell you the details of the system you buy. I recently built my own PC, which was not very difficult at all, and it saved me about 300-400 dollars if I had bought the same system from a company like Alienware or Voodoo. In addition, I know every last detail about my system because I had to make sure all the parts fit together. I would suggest trying this because it's a great learning experience and you'll be saving a lot of money. With a lot of computers, it's hard to tell exactly what you need without opening up your PC. Say for instance, your motherboard only supports a specific type of RAM, then it might frustrate you to find a stick of RAM that fits your motherboard. I'd do a lot of research and build your own if i was in your shoes.

It all depends on what the use of the computer will be for. If you are looking for a monster that will play any game for a long time, the Dell XPS series is fantastic. If it's for basic apllication and internet use, HP has always been a good solid choice and good for the money.

Most computer brands are not very good at upgrading. My guess would be the gaming machines (alienware which Dell now owns) would be the best bet.

I recommend Dell, because it is all about quality and style. You have extended memory, exquisite style, etc. It is just good.
Or another option is just to build your own which may require some hardware and software computer skills.

Have a nice day! (@_@)
