I havent ridden for a few years now....and am only licensed to ride up to 250cc. I LOVED my Suzuki GN 250..... HATED the Kawasaki GPX250 I had. Should I take the lessons and get an open license... and a bigger bike or stick to what I know?? Im tall, fairly strong build... the GN just felt too small to me. I would like a bike just like the GN, only bigger.... I dont need huge speed. Any suggestions??

Those big cruisers have really terrible handling..... if i were you i would go for a sport touring bike. Something with power comfort and most importantly good handling which none of those cruisers have...... they are big heavy loud unresponsive- just drive in a straight line pieces of junk.

so yeah..... open license and go the middle road with a sport tourer

That's interesting. Would you tell me where you're from that you have that sort of restriction? Not that I need to know; merely curious. I had a 250 and enjoyed it, but it was a two-stroke. A four-stroke used on the highways should be 350 to 400 at least to be comfortable. 500 is a nice size. You really don't "need" more, although you might want more. Have you considered some of the larger scooters out there? I've been considering a 400 if I ever get around to it. But to answer your question, since two-strokes are on the way out a 250 four-stroke has marginal power. I don't think you'll regret going a little bigger.

You might want to get an open lic. it will open up more choices. You might look at the Yamaha 650's or you could even go with the Honda 750 or Suzuki 800's. All have been around awhile and are reliable.

go to a 500 see how it feels the bigger the engine the more low weight your bike will have it will feel more stable but it will be slower to maneuver at speed like to swerve around something on the road you will notice a slower response also takes more road to stop I once had a gz 250 stopped on a dime from 60mph my 750 seems to take forever to stop so i try to leave a lot more following distance the gz was fun because you could whip it around like a dirt bike not so with a heavier bike.

250's are weak on the streat and don't have a good top speed versus a honda 400 enduro or a cbr 600 also they have tt 350's that are great on the dirt or the street.

Try the Honda Shadow 750cc . Its good for back roads and just "ok " for the highway .
Take a motorcycle safety course and they will give you a license when you pass .

take the motorcycling safety foundations course regardless.

theres a few 500cc cruisers out there if you want a slightly bigger bike.
