Hi

What age are we talking about...I know that I teach preschool..and some children come in with truck driver language. What I do..is give them funny words to use. I do not tell them that they are bad words..because I don't want them to think that their parents or love ones (who uses them) are bad..but instead I tell them that they are not school words. I then give them words like "oh fluffanutter" instead of the F word..and "OFrankfurter" etc. One child was using the C word..so I had them say "Dirty diaper head" instead...beacuse they told me my other words were too nice..lol...We talk about kind and loving words to use instead..but we also talk about ways to talk about our feelings when we are upset...and ways to channel it thru safe activities...

I am not sure teachers "let" kids cuss rather than some teachers may not discipline kids if they use inappropriate language.

While teachers hear much more than they may lead on, teachers must also learn which battles are worth fighting and which battles are not worth fighting.

I hear my students cuss before and after school, when they change classes, and during lunch, but I only make it an issue if their words are obviously meant for me to hear.

I have stopped "cussing" in my life because I know that if I cuss outside of school, eventually, I will cuss in front of kids--and this is unacceptable.

Good Luck....

Yes,some teachers actually let the kids cuss because there are about 95% every body cuss. And I believe sometimes teachers cuss too. If the teachers are cussing somehow, they will allow the students cuss somehow! Every one have temper, attitude!

I am a student teacher. I work with second graders, and I don't allow them to use anything like, "shut up" "stupid" "dumb" or "turd". I know that it would depend on the teacher and the age of the children. When I was in high school my teachers let me use shut up, sh*t and other things... But nothing too vulgar. But they didn't APPROVE of the behavior.

Not on purpose. But vulgar phrases evolve everyday, are shortened and abbreviated to where some pretty vulgar things can be said with out it really standing out to the teacher in a room full of chatter as cursing.

sadly yes- I work as a substitute teacher, and I often see students use words like 'motherf**ker, n**ger, etc in front of the teachers- and the teachers do nothing....
