These cartridges need to have their chip reset, so you are stuck taking it to some one who has the right equipment. Your other bet is to search the web, there are several companies selling already refilled cartridges for near half price.
Here are the first few that popped up on Yahoo Search:

actually, i do no longer desire to disappoint you, yet as a question of certainty that Dell printers are the only ones who sell Dell ink cartridges. I consider you in that they are very costly. i've got very own Dells for greater or less 22 years already because of the fact i'm getting training savings, and that they've been very supportive and unswerving. i purchase the linked fee Packs. Dell even sends me self-addressed envelopes, so i will return and recycle their ink cartridges; yet i do no longer. What I do is take them to Staples, and that i'm getting a $3 coupon for each cartridge. I upload the coupons till I even have adequate to purchase replica paper for the Dell printer! the two that, or study for a clean printer. sturdy success!

Some of the newer cartridges can't be refilled, due to a sensor built into them that shows them to be empty even after they have been refilled.
Refilling is a messy and expensive process. Your best bet is to can your inkjet and get a laser, for normal printing, both color and b/w are very reasonable lately. For photos it's still inkjet or nothing.
Good Luck
