I am currently serving a few months in work release (jail) and was wondering...If I ran to Mexico (or another state for that matter) for a few years and had no contact with the law, would I have to serve my time later on in life? Or is there a statute of limitations that could get me outta this if I ran? Just wondering because the punishment does not fit the crime. A year for drinking and driving is b.s. A lady in town just stabbed her husband a few times and only got 6 months, that is rediculous. Let me know what ya think...

If you ran to Mexico your charges wouldn't go away but you would have. I vote that you do it. You obviously have learned nothing and you are a burden on the rest of this society. Yes, by all means voluntarily go somewhere else.

If you moved inside a cave, you wouldn't have too many problems but the police would probably still find you. Most countries work and collaborate with other countries, so if you did escape all the US police would have to do is send a fax or make a phone call to the Mexican police department (or any other country) and that would be the end of you. Even if you moved to Iran, the US police would still find you thanks to the Iranian police collaborating with them. Plus if you escaped, they'd probably give you a few more months time....I'd just finish the year and get over with it.

You would serve not only the time you have remaining but probably a additional 20 years .
For what would be considered escape from confinement. it would carry the same punishment as a jail break,

That would be dumb and dumber. No, it won't go away, only make matters worse. Eventually they will get you and tack a whole lot of time onto the time you now have to serve. Serve your time, learn from it and never have to be looking over your shoulder.

If you come back you will be arrested and sent to jail. You might have to be a citizen of mexico in order to be safe from the charges. But I don't reccomend fleeing to mexico, especially if you did something wrong.

Just do your time, if you run and then come back thinking everything is forgotten that will be on your record and your punishment will be worse for evading the law.. good luck.. What a night of drinking can do huh... tell me about it.

Maybe you shouldn't drink and drive. I think we need harsher punishment. You don't see this crap happening near as much in countries with harsh punishments.

Dude drunk drivers piss me off so much. Your lucky I wasn't in control of your case. If I was, I'd give you a pretty d*** strict punishment. THe one difference is that the husband probably didn't die seeing you you said she didn't murder him. If you were on the road much longer, who knows who could be dead today.

You will only make things worse by running away. Do your time, learn your lession, move on.
