Because Yahoo is run by the biggest douche's in the Universe.
They can give it all the "Well you're getting it for free, and all that!".
But Ivan The Terrible used to torture people for free, so that's no argument.

I'm with you on this (& The Oak) It drives you crazy. Do Y! have an automated thingy that deletes certain words etc then send an automated violation notice? How do they (or who) updates these words etc?
Obviously censorship IS very important for various reasons, but I sometimes wonder if they want us to use this service or not? Seems that maybe those with a few braincells have to 'pay' for the ***** who choose to abuse?
I say grrr a lot too! But I try to say lol as well sometimes!
