Would legal same sex marriage promote monogamy? What are your thoughts (whether or not you're in a relationship, open or otherwise)?

I think that if same sex marriage were legal here in the US, there would be an increase in monogamy. But I don't think it would reach the levels of the straights, at least not for the male couples. Many people in the gay community think that open relationships are OK, a much higher percentage than in the straight population.

No. Polygamy is a disaster as a social policy. It attracts greedy men, it always ends up with child brides when the women run out, and it is generally paid for by taxpayers. The countries that allow it are not places you'd want to move to. Polygamy should be kept in the past along with slavery, which was also acceptable for thousands of years. And moving away from monogamy would destroy marriage altogether instead of just improving monogamy to get more people into it.

I don't think it will change anyone's preference. I also don't think that we will ruin marriage in this way because those of us that are "poly" won't seek a marriage and therefore won't ruin the 50% divorce rate that the straight population has already established. I don't know if we'll divorce more or less considering how the rate of long term relationships hasn't really been recorded in the homosexual community (as far as I know)... I predict it will be about the same.

Well, I'm totally for monogamy. There are too many STD's out there to be with someone who is dabbling in everyone else's ink. STD's are NOT a gay problem, but I just want to be clear that I am not for open relationships.

I dont think that a relationship is required to be open or closed. What happens in a mans personal life is his own business. His sexual preference is just that- a preference. That is something that is by choice which is entitled to privacy in needed or wanted. If the man wishes to keep his relationship privated from view of public than we need to respect him and let him have his choice whether he is married or not

I always think that a marriage is a CLOSE relationship (close the dating game book, or looking for someone new to sleep with), if some one want to have an open relationship, why bother to get marriage, and exchange "till death do us apart".

Well it’s not worked in the straight world has it, some people will always sleep around. I’m gay and I’ve been in a 16 year monogamous relationship. I don’t need a bit of paper and a wedding cake to stop me sleeping around.

I think that a sizeable proportion of gay marriages would be open...just not behind closed doors like most straight marriages...but I'm monogamous...so some of us would not be open either
