I believe it was in the film A Bronx Tale, where the advice given to the protagonist was, "When you go to pick up this girl, lock both car doors. Unlock and open her door and let her in. If she doesn't lean across and unlock your door, dump her."
Life is about equity. Women have an obligation to appreciate men's "gentlemanly" behavior, and return it, if they expect it to continue.
As for men being gentlemen towards each other, well, I suppose so.... until you try and steal my fire. Then it's dog-eat-dog.

I am a girl...but I wanted to chime in. I hv noticed these days, many men need to be reminded to be gentlemen. They take it real easy...and kinda test to see how easy-going the girl is. If a girl has no such expectations, the guy is more than ready to Relax and not care. But if she has certain expectations, then guys know to take care and mind how they are saying, and doing things. The girl has to set the bar! But it is sad, coz ideally, i want the guy to have an inner ... voice saying he'd like being a gentleman nonetheless! It's not about being treated a certain way.... it's just more respectable isn't it. It's in "good taste". I love gentlemanly behavior. Not a fake one though - I rather it comes from his heart :).

Its important but every time I do the gentleman thing most girls give me a wired look so now I just open the door and hope the next person catches the door.

It is truly a must to become a gentleman at all times. I have no other means of being a complete jerk to complete strangers. But none the less, I respect and give dignity to anyone and everyone I come across in my path.

Very. But being a gentleman isn't just being polite. You can be polite and evil or polite and good.
I prefer to be a gentleman and good. However, that doesn't mean a gentleman can't be both a gentleman and a devious lover.

It is the most important thing a man can do in his life, to be a gentleman is really all a man can do if he wants to be loved or respected if not by others at least he can respect himself.

supremely important.... unfortunately this type of chivalry has ceased to live in a lot of places... guys for some reason just dont care about being gentlemans when being with a woman
