To me, it seems like lesbians don't take as many precautions to protect themselves as heterosexuals do.

Do you take precautions? If so, how?

I agree that, because of lower transmission risks, most lesbians don't seem to care or take many precautions. But I do know that in a lot of good, sex-positive places where casual or anonymous lesbian sex is happening, like lesbian bath houses or sex clubs, it's rigorously enforced.

I strongly encourage everyone (male or female, gay or straight) to arm themselves with a stash of condoms, dental dams, Saran wrap, and latex gloves. Don't cross-contaminate anything that has touched your bodily fluids to someone else; always change whatever barrier you've been using if you're going to use the same toy/body part on someone else.

I don't know how big of an issue it is but i do know that there are quite a few lesbians that don't think they will get STD's. I guess we assume that the women we are with have only been with other women and couldn't have got a disease from a man. I will admit I haven't taken as many precautions as I should have but luckily I'm still clean to this day. I guess I just try to know who am with before I get to having sex, and know a little about their history as far as partners.

I know of a few lesbians who have herpes...they never thought to take precautions because they thought a woman would tell them if they had an std: NOT! The same lesbian has infected at least a couple of people I know, and she DOES know she has it, she just doesn't care.
Dental dams should be used, but aren't by a lot of lesbians and bisexuals...

Considering the fact that lesbians rely mainly on oral sex....i would say that heterosexuals and lesbian women alike do not take precautions when recieving or giving oral sex.

It's not an issue of lesbians being concerned, it's an issue of everyone being concerned.

I've given up on getting any action for years, so I'm putting off getting any protection.
