Replace the washer hoses and use apple vinegar and baking soda solution. It will bubble and fiz. You will probably need to do it several times.

You may end up replacing the water intake pipe to your washer.

Are you SURE it is scale? Try taking a mirror, and a flashlight, and look down the drainpipe. Some washers have a removable donut, on the end of the washer drain, to eliminate water from spilling out of the pipe, and to keep the hose from backing out during a drain cycle. If this donut is pushed into the pipe too far, it will separate from the hose, when you pull the hose out, and it will get pushed further down the line, when you try and put the hose back in. An electric snake will either push this donut further downstream, or will pass through the hole in the middle, and do no good. The pipe drain is 2" inside diameter, and scale should not build up and harden so fast, that the drain would stop up between washes. You might be using a particular type of soap powder that cakes up in the drain, and yes, this will cause a backup. I would try the mirror and light first. I have repaired several washer drains, that this was the problem. Good luck!

The quickest way is to sweat in new pipe. Try using a water softner to prevent future build up.
