Was anybody induced? ive heard it hurts really bad, but im really excited to have my son finally, i will be going in tomomrow night to get my cervix softend, and then progress to being induced monday morning, and im wondering, what feeling hit you when you held that brand new baby in your arms right after you had them? im really scared, because i always thought you know, painless birth, the baby just poped out, ok, not really, but i mean, its like i dont know, im just worried now!

Anything to help ease fears??

i want to try breastfeeding, and dr recomends putting baby to breast imediatly, and so any tips?

Being induced is not awful. When you get settled, they will put in an IV, and they will break your water to see if that starts contractions on it's own. If not, they will start the pitocin in your I.V. As soon as you feel pain, GET THE EPIDURAL. The people I've known who were able to do it without an epidural were not induced. Induction DOES make the contraction come harder and faster with less recovery time between. Don't try to be a hero--with induction you automatically want to get the epidural. And once you do, it's great! good luck!

I was induced with my first baby and it wasn't so bad. If it gets bad I would opt for the epidural........It's not so bad. Bring a good book because it may take a while. You will probaly get to the hospital get into the gown...get hooked up to the IV which will give you pitocin which is a natural hormone but one that you are not producing enough of and hopefully within the day a new baby will arrive. Just don't delay on the epidural if you need it get it. HOpefully you will get to hold the baby right after the delivery if everything is o.k and the feelings you will have are unexplainable. Breast feeding is best for baby but I had a very difficult time with it and couldn't do it even after renting the pump..... I was very disappointed but the formulas out there today are just as good and my bonding with baby went fine SO excited for you GOOD LUCK
P.S if you are breast feeding youcan get pregnant I was pregnant by my six week check up I breast fed for 18 days and didn't think I could get pregnant

Well honestly my water didnt break but I was feeling contractions so they broke my water for me and that was really funny feeling. The pain came a lot stronger after they did that and I couldnt take the pain anymore. Honestly no one can really tell you how it feels to hold your brand new baby. I dont think anyone could tell you exactly how it feels. It's beautiful. If I could give you and advice I would say just look deep into their little eyes and dont let anyone bother you for a while. Just so you and your new baby can have a special moment. You'll do that a alot. My son is 2 now and I still do that all the time. And when you feel down just look at those eyes and they will lift any pain or sorrow you might have. I was really scared when it was "that time" for him to come into the world but it goes by so fast and dont try to be a soldier! If you need pain meds then take them. You wanna enjoy this moment. It's hard to enjoy it if you cant focus on it. And just remember the pain goes away. I didnt breastfeed. I just wasnt comfortable with it. I also heard that nurses can be pushy. Mine were very nice with my choice, but DONT let them push you. Remember you will be a great mommy as long as you do what you can with as much love as you can give. Now you made me want another one! lol. I wish I could be you again. It's the best feeling in the world. I wish you the best and I know everything will be ok. Stay strong honey!

I work in Labor & Delivery and I actually had my cervix softened (it's called Cervidil) and was also induced. I would not have had it any other way! I went in and immediately had my epidural (and no epidurals do not slow down labor!) I was induced the next morning. You just want to make sure that you get your epidural before or soon after the pitocin is started which is what helps you to contract and dilate! The epidural will make you numb and you can either enjoy your day in labor or sleep all day long like I did until it was time to push! It was an awesome amazing experience and is unlike anything you will ever experience again! Good luck and congrats!

Well you have probably been induced already, so Im not sure if you still want to know, but I was induced on Feb 12 and I was able to breathe through each contraction without loosing it. Of course it is panful having a baby is painful, but I did not need any drugs I did it naturally and you can too . However i suggest taking deep breathes and trying to stay calm through each contraction as they get closer so you dont lose it. Losing it makes it more painful and premature pushing which can swell the cervix and lead to a c-section.Good thing about induction is that you wont be in labor for too long it goes by pretty fast.

I was induced with both of my pregnancies and they were both different. It is a little harder on your body if they use pitocin to induce because it makes the contractions more intense and closer together. I had an epidural both times. it worked great with the first one and i had 3 hours of pushing before she was finaly born, but with the second one they induced me three different times and itfinally worked and then the epidural didn't work and i finaly ended up with a c-section and an 11 lb 4 oz beautiful girl. She was really long and skinny just big like her daddy, the size of a 2 month old. As far a holding her. you cant describe it. you could go through hell and back and when you see that baby's face, its all worth it. And, yes put the baby to your breast as soon as possible and keep skin to skin contact. its an experience you both will enjoy and it creates an amazing bond. good luck to you, dont be nervous. tecnology is amazing and you will be just fine.

First off, congratulations! :) Try not to worry too much about the induction... I've had two children - one was induced & the other wasn't. With my non-induction, I was given an epidural, but it didn't take... long story. With my second child (and induction), I wasn't ALLOWED to have any sort of pain-block...so I had the induction au' naturel!!! Yes, it was more painful than the first time, only because the contractions hit much harder & much faster. I was able to get through the four-hour labour by using "visualisation techinques"... Just try to visualize something enjoyable... it might even help to bring a motivational picture or phrase with you. Try to relax as much as possible... And, if you have the option, use a birthing-ball. It really speeds things up & loosens things up.

Holding your child after giving birth is the most wonderful feeling in the world. I'll never forget the love I felt for my son & daughter.... wouldn't trade it in for anything.

Good luck to you.... And I'm sending you vibes for a safe, speedy & easy delivery. :)

Ok, first of all... being induced is not anymore painfull than a normal labor. When they soften your cervix they will just put a little peice of a pill up in your cervix. And as long as you have talked with your dr about pain managment you should have no issues. I went in and they induced me, yes it gets painful, but that is why I had an epidural. All labor is painful. Im not going to lie to you about that.

As for the indceing, its just a hormone given via IV that will make your body start labor. I had it.

The best thing I can tell you is just let it happen, you cant stop any of it. and If I were you.... tell them you want the drugs ;)

As far as breastfeeding, Yes, right after I had my daughter and they finished cleaning me off and stuff I put her on my breast. Just make sure when you put your son to eat that you tease his lips with your nipple so that he opens wide, and takes in the nipple and areola, because if he sucks on just the nipple, you will be in ALOT of pain for the next few days and everytime you feed him. They will have a breastfeeding nurse come in to help you and give you tips and answer all your questons... and dont be shy, she has seen more boobs than you can imagine ;)

I hope this helps you out, Congrats on your son.... there is nothing like that first moment of seeing your child after 10 months of wondering what they will look like!

I was induced 3 times. I didn't feel it to be awful. After the vaginal medicine that softens the cervix and you initial assessment they pretty much left my husband and I alone the whole night. You will be attached to the fetal moniter though. We brought a movie along to watch. The next morning they started my Pitocin and later broke my water. Fair warning that was uncomfortable for me. After hours of laboring I had all my kids vaginally. (some people feel there is a greater chance of c-section w/ induction) You really do forget the pain those first moments after birth. You just feel relieved and excited that baby has finally arrived. I agree w/ your doc. The sooner at the breast the better.

well i was scheduled to be induced July 14, 2005 at 7:30am. and i heard that the contractions are stronger, more frequent and more intense. i never experienced it though, b/c as soon as i got into bed at 1am the morning i was to be induced. i went into labor! i gave birth to a 5lb 12oz baby girl at 9:30am! and the nurses and doctors said for some reason it always happens that way.
i wouldn't be surprised if you went into labor the day that they planned to induce you!

um, they didn't let me hold my baby right after she was born, they rushed her to the NICU to be checked out cuz she was so little. so, i never had that feeling of seeing my baby for the first time right after all that hard work.

i don't really have any tips on breast feeding. i was able to do it for a month. cuz i got lazy or something. but i really do regret it. b/c i enjoyed it so much. they will have a lactation consultant on call and she will give you tips and show you how to do it. it really helps. and when they take your baby to the nursery to run some tests, they don't bring her in right after they are done. if you really want to see your baby or whenever you feel the need to hold your baby, just call the nursery and they will bring your baby! well, i didn't know that until the last day that i was there and it was too late. so, i never was able to take advantage of that on call service.

I was induced with my daughter and as she was my first I cant really say if it was more painful than a fully natural birth - but I can say, despite the pain and the scariness of it all (my baby got stuck and I had two doctors in the room talking about giving me a c-section!) the second I held her in my arms it all melted away - your not scared anymore, the pain is not felt and everything you've gone though is soooooo worth it!

I put my daughter on my breast within 15minutes of her birth and it was a little awkward and we never got the hang of it so I switched to the bottle 4 weeks later with many many tears in between :o(

I know many people would be telling you this, but just focus on the end result and try not to think about all thats in between...everything will turn out how its meant to and you'll have a gorgeous baby in the end for all your effort.

Good Luck :o)
