Does any have any personal experiences with an IUD? I heard you can have some side affects.

I only want to hear from women who have used this birth control method please!

I had the IUD Mirena since Nov. 2006, still having regular cycles, I noticed a change last month (light bleeding) cycle lasted longer since I had it inserted, recent cycle bleeding again. Very unpredictable but I guess I haven't had it that long, but its scary having something in your body. This is my first birth control method. I'm against pills and shots.

I am currently using the Mirena IUD. I love it. I had a lot of spotting for the first few months after it was inserted but that was the worst side effect I had. I no longer have heavy painful periods and that is great!!

I had the copper IUD for just about 2 years and liked it more than any other birth control that I've used. Previous to that I was on the pill, which had way more side effects (i.e. weight gain) than the IUD. There was a little cramping when I had the IUD put in, but nothing more than period cramping. Other than that, I didn't experience any side effects. **An important note: after having the IUD for that amount of time, I came up pregnant, with the IUD still in place. My doctor was able to remove the IUD without disrupting the pregnancy and now I'm about 6 months along. I think the effectiveness of the IUD is about the same as the pill, but the small percentage has to happen to someone! :)

Over the past 3 years I've tried the pill, shot, and now the IUD. I am very satisfied w/ the IUD! So far the worst side effect I have had was a cyst on my ovary about 2 months after i got it. These are pretty common w/ the IUD, and most of the time they will come and go w/o even being noticed. After being on the shot for nearly 2 years, I thought I would never have a normal period again, but about 4 months after getting the IUD I began to get my period again. Usually, your period will be a irregular for the first year or so w/ the IUD. I haven't had any other side effects. No weight gain or anything.

I had one put in after i had my baby and i only kept it for three months. I had none stop cramping with out ever getting my period. My mom has had one in for five years now and she never has had a problem other then her periods are a little heavier, but it isn't something that causes her any trouble. The difference between us are is that i had the mirena and she has the copper. I think that it all depends on your body and how it reacts to the IUD. Some women never have any problems and some just can't use them at all.

I had the Mirena for almost two years. The insertion was very painful, but I felt well enough to go to work the next day. I didn't have any problems until I developed a bad PID. My doctor thought it was caused from the IUD and removed it. Removal was a breeze.

I think it is worth a try if you don't have a history of gyn problems. If you have endo or anything else, it may not be the best choice for you.

I had the IUD for four months and had to have it removed, With me it was very uncomfortable having it put in and having it taken out, But I had mine taken out because I bleed 24-7 from day 1.
But it work very well for a lot of women, The doctor should give you a pamphlet and discuss it with you before hand

I had a IUD, and had it removed 3 weeks later. I had horrible cramping, so bad that it hurt to stand up. I have friends who have them and have had them for a few years with no problems. I guess that everyone is different.
