I think Tennessee has a little of everything to offer. I have been to many states and always end up going to the Gatlinburg area every year.
During the Christmas season the entire city is lite up, snow falls on the mountain sides, creek run through some of the hotels and their are hundreds of cabin secluded in the woods but close enough for the luxuries.
During the Spring and Summer time I enjoy visiting Dollywood theme park which is fairly cheap and very entertaining. www.dollywood.com There is also a large splash water park next door. There are dinosaur museums, fishing, hunting, a national park nearby, Ripley Beleive it or not musuems and many many dinner shows for all ages. (I.e. Dixie Stampede, Black Jamboree, Magin Shows and Comedy Barn just to name a few.)
During the Fall, the entire city is filled with Pumpkins and Scarecrows along the roadside. It is a very clean place and the view from Look out point is amazing. You can see into several states at that mountain top. It is a great time to ride the incline railroad and play putt putt golf.
I guess this works for me because it has the fun for my child, romantic getaways for me and my husband and more serious nature events that keep my husband's interest too.
just a quick note on a hotel I would suggest for price and comfort. The Sidney James Mountain Lodge has rates about 59.00 - 69.00 per night and often has online coupons for buy one get one rates. A creek runs right outside your balcony and you can smell the fresh pancakes being cooked in walking distance to the local eateries. There is also a heated indoor pool with a bears cave, kiddie pool, outside pool, sauna and jacuzzi. www.sidneyjames.com has a wonderful webcam you can view it

I grew up in Duluth, MN and that i imagine its between the most acceptable cities i have ever been in - its outfitted on the area of a six hundred feet rocky ridge, and runs for about 20 miles alongside its length, with the St. Louis River and Lake more desirable as its different boundary. there are distinct streams that tumble down the hill by the city. basically to the west is Jay Cooke State Park, with stunning rapids reducing by the historic rock. Going to the Northeast is the North Shore stress of Lake more desirable, seen between the most scenic drives in north united states, with 7 state parks between Duluth and the Canadian border. you may also bypass for a short hike into the deep pine forests alongside the North Shore trekking path. Or area vacation to the international Wolf center in Ely. Yeah, i imagine its exceedingly fantastic - some different spots: Badlands/Black Hills, SD - exceedingly awsome - camped at a primative campgroun on the west end of the badlands a pair of circumstances and had Buffalo wandering by every time. Mt Rushmore, loopy Horse Memorial, Devils Tower, Jewel Cave. Utah - all of it. Yellowstone/Jackson hollow, Wy. Colorado - maximum of it.

I believe the best vacations turn out to be with good friends and good attitude with the location being the 3rd ingredient. I've had great vacations in the Disneyworld area in Orlando, Florida.

New York City. Voted friendliest large city in the entire world. Has many many choices of things to do 24 hours each day. This city is actually alive and that transforms to you whenever you are there. My favorite place on this earth.

New Mexico, because it has everything, Mountains, forests, beautiful greens and browns, the weather is perfect and if you are lucky you get to see lightning striking the tops of the mountains. It feels wild but laid back at the same time.

The are many, from the California and Oregon coastines to The Rocky Mountains. It depends on how much time you have and what you most like to do. If you email me, I can respond more accurately, as the US is so large, it is hard to be more specific.
