There was a time in this country when we had to elect people to vote on issues because we could not be there. Now we have the internet and we don't need them to do it. They can just be advisors or something like that.

It You raise a great question for the modern era as technology is rapidly changing our reality. Modern science is rapidly making many things obsolete, and government is one of those things. We will all soon have some device or other that will allow us to instantly vote on any issue, making the Senate and House obsolete in many ways. This is an issue that will be quickly coming to the forefront, probably within 5-10 years, and as we all adjust, we will demand more direct participation. It will be very interesting to see how this works out, all over the planet.

Just as many elections are rigged any vote on the Internet would be subject to those controlling it. Definitely not the average person. Senators and Congressmen get paid to supervise their staff which actually do the hard work. Most of the time the elected official is nothing more than a front for other interest. Our systems requires pin up figures to pretend the masses have a say in the government when in reality a few families and corporations make the decisions. Wise up.

I do not think we need to do away with this part of our Constitution ever, yet after congress has done it job of making bills, I see no reason we as voters could not vote directly on them.
If you pay attention to what congress is doing and when bills are coming up, you can email your congressman and tell him how you want him to vote. If enough do this you will be controlling his vote. It would take it away from the money vote as it happens now.

Because the United States is a Republic and NOT a Democracy.

In a Republic you have representatives that the people vote for to represent them and to vote on the issues for them.

In a Democracy it's mob rule.

Since it is in the Constitution that there is to be three branches of government, having Senators and Representatives are, unfortunately, necessary. We need Congress in order to be a part of the checks and balances for the other two.

The average person doesn't have the time to read each bill in detail and see what it is they are voting for.

But then again, it turns out that most members of congress don't read the bills they are voting for, either.
