for a team to bat or bowl first

It will be entirely depend upon the nature of pitch, weather conditions etc. to decide whether to bat or bowl first. If the pitch tends to help the bowlers and the climate is overcast, it will be advantageous to bowl first. If the pitch is considered to be
batsmen friendly, it will be advantageous to bat first.

It really depends on what we're talking about here - are we talking Test, One-Day or 20-20?
For 20-20, it seems batting first is the way to go, very rarely do teams seem to be able to chase down scores in that format.
For the other games, take the following into account:
One determinant is the pitch. If a pitch has lots of grass on it, or it's a bit damp, it will help the bowlers first. If it's a bit dry or dusty, it will take spin later on, so it may be easier to bat. The weather also needs to be a consideration, if it's overcast or humid the ball will swing, so you may bowl with this in mind. You may also take the ground history into account, for instance teams batting second in one-dayers have a poor record in Sydney.
But the most important consideration is the team structure, the Australian team in Tests has always liked batting first where possible, as they can set the terms of the match this way, and know that Warne would be able to bowl last on a ptich that had dried out, with areas of rough from the bowler's footmarks for him to aim at. If you go into a test match with all seamers, you're more likely to want to exploit this first.
Other teams, such as New Zealand, seem to prefer chasing in one-day matches, mainly because they bat a lot deeper than most teams.
In the end, the real answer I can give is, what team do I have at my disposal, where am I playing and what does the pitch and weather look like? I'd bat first unless the conditions and my team suggested otherwise.

Taking decisions on tosses depends on the wicket(pitch) and the team's potential.

The area in which the team is strong whether setting target and then defending it or chasing, so
right decision has to be made on tosses. In some cases tosses plays a vital role in deciding a team's fate.

For an example just take yesterday's match where in Trinidad the pitch was good for bowling and it was said that a pitch to project a good score, so if India put Bangladesh into batting it would have been better for India because we are better chasers (the past two to three years record shows we are good chasers), typical thing happened with Pakistan against Ireland.

So these are all the examples which shows how to take decisions on tosses(which decides the team's luck).

It depends on the pitch. If the pitch is good for batting then batting first is a good option and if the pitch is good for bowling then a team should choose to field and chase.

both firsts are equally as important as a whole. bowling first has the same advantages like pressure, ability to see how the lanes react or the how a pitcher throws in baseball . it helps the whole team. this is definitely a either or question with the advantage part. it could only be answered with preference. my preference would be bowling first..i have made a lot of money in bowling not baseball.

Batting first is okay, but it is better to go 3rd, 4th or 6th. It used to be 4th but now it is 6th. For bowling, I have no idea, but I like going first to set the par. It also makes me not really have someone to beat and have a good time. Also, it helps keep me calm and in my game.

undesirable captaincy. As a captain it is your accountability to do not forget weak spot of gamers like hussey performs spin ok and Ajmal struggles against left-handers,So Razzak could have bowled as a replace of Ajmal.
