Why are there more white people in the NHL than any other race?

this is a question similar to the one about black people in the NBA.

Canada and the European countries because of their cold climates have long histories associated with winter sports and then Ice hockey is the only team winter sport they do not have any other winter team sports to spread the talent and so for hundreds of years they have cultivated hockey and become more and more skilled at it and since these Canadian and European countries are full of white people who else but they would be the most represented in hockey.

the most obvious answer is hockey originated in the north, Canada invented the sport and for years, the sport was played only by Canadians. Later on Europe and Russia joined the mix. I'm talking countries like Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic, and so forth.

Its a location thing. Canada, Russia, and the European countries mentioned are predominantly white. There are quite a few black players in the NHL nowadays and that was mostly due to hockey's spread to the United States.

Well..a lot of the people in the nhl are canadian or have canadian family members. And in canada..hockey is the main sport. Also..most canadians are also white..just like africans are black. So its like a pass it down from generation to generation thing. I could say one of the reasons most people say..that hockey is a very expensive spot and mostly on the white people can afford it..but i think its offensive.

Yeah it's true. It's because if you look on any NHL hockey teams website... almost everyone is from like foreign countries like the Czech and places over there. And if you know anything about those areas, there aren't any people of different races.
I wondered the same thing.

one reason being that hockey is centered in many white dominate areas, like Canada, the upper midwest, and the north east(i'm not just refering to the NHL)and also other countries such as sweden, czech republic, finland, and russia, were as many people know there are just about all white people in these areas.
And second reason being that hockey is a very expensive sport to play, and many kids with opportunities to play financialy are white, i'm not saying that all black people are poor though by any means.
And white people have just always played hockey thats all.

The same reason there's more black people in basketball than whites.

In basketball you need a ball and a hoop. That's it. Maybe ten bucks.

In hockey you need numerous pads, a stick, skates, helmet, etc. It's very pricey.

I'm not saying that all blacks are poor and all whites are rich, but hockey is definetly a white sport.

Because white people are the only one's crazy enough to get out there in the freezing cold on a sheet of ice over some very cold water and play a game! Besides, didn't they tell you - us white people can't jump, so we skate instead.

wow you people know how to stereotype....
hockey is more of a northern hemisphere sport and most white folk come from the northern hemisphere..most black folk who plays hockey has been born in a hockey country.. and i state most not all...it has to do with the advertisement of the sport also.. not too many hot countries have the advertisement like they would do soccer etc...no one talks about hockey in bars and taverns in those places .. they talkmore of soccer tennis cricket etc.

Its because alot of the people that are good at hockey come from europe and if you have ever been to europe there aren't many other races there

Yeah, that's weird because hockey is an aggressive game, and to tell you the truth, white people are not that aggressive as non-whites.
