it is one of my greatest fears

I had a near drowning experience a few years ago, and I'm a collegiate swimmer and lifeguard! (I don't mean to scare you though!) ... We were goofing around having chicken fights in a hotel pool, and the two guys who were on bottom didn't think that the other girl and I who were on top were being vicious enough. So they got on our shoulders, and were really going at it. We started at the shallow end of the pool, and ended up in the deep end (5 feet). I'm 5'9", so I could still stand and have my head out of the water, but then we got stuck up against a wall, and I lost my footing and the guys were pretty much wrestling on top of me, who was under water. I was digging my fingernails into the guys' legs to get him off of me, and I regained my footing and stood up, and just when i thought I was going to get my head out of the water, I took a huge breath but got pushed back under, so I got a huge breath of water. There was so much pressure in my chest, I seriously thought I was going to die right then and there. I guess our coach had come outside while all this was going on (we were on a training trip) and told the boys to stop, and then I emerged and threw up the water on the pool deck. Turns out that the guy thought I was trying to tell him to hold on and get back up when I was clawing his legs, and he didn't even realize my head was underwater for several minutes. We now are no longer allowed to do anything but sit or stand in the hotel pools! :P BUT I was able to swim that evening at practice, and am still swimming.

You will have nothing to worry about if you're safe and smart when you're swimming. Like don't go in open waters where there might be a riptide or strong current or something like that that would pull you under; don't go in water so deep that you don't feel comfortable in. Don't worry about if other people might make fun of you; everyone has their fears, and believe it or not, more people than you might think are afraid of water! Just relax when you are siwmming and you'll be fine!

you will nvr know exactly what it is like to drown. If u drown u obviously would not live to tell the story. ppl have almost drown. I fell in a pool a few times when i was younger but u just stay calm and come to the top or wait for somebody to come get u. DONT STRUGGLE. i am a competetive swimmer and if u just learn to swim it is so easy. If u just play things safe and dont do anything really dangerous like play games where ppl jump on u. Other wise just be careful but dont be afraid to swim. if u swim more u get better and when u know u can swim the fear of drowning will go away.

Yeah actually. I was about 7 or 8 and I was swimming in Lake Erie with family and friends. I was walking out tot he center of the lake, holding hands with my best friend. I could see my family sitting on the beach. We kept walking out, cause it was for some reason pretty shallow. All the sudden I fell into a sand hole. It was way over my head. My friend tried to pull me up by my hair but I was heavy for her. My family saw us, but thought that we were messing around. I panicked at first, after about a min and a half I was kind of calm. I don't remember much after that. My older sister heard my friend yelling and realized that she was freaking out for real. She swam out and snatched me out of the water. It is just a feeling like there is nothing you can do and the more you struggle, the more you sink.

Obviously someone who has drowned in water can not respond to your question. The responses you receive would be from near drownings.

It's called Hydrophoia.Too common.Evey body drowns for the first time. It's feels as if the gravity is pulling you inside the earth. But then evey body should have the courage to over come thier fears.

Just remember that we are always responsible for our selves and nobody else.

if you fear something then there is a beter chance it will happen you just got to relax and learn to float but that is in a pool in a river or the beach things are diffrent so i hope it never happens to you and i hope that answers your question
