If you don't know what your doing then don't do it. Updating the bios with the wrong update may bite you. In control panel go to system then hardware then device manager. On each while on line under the + right mouse and update each driver for all through out list, then do a windows update both express and custom, not every one of them will have an update, then go back and try to find up date for your bios.
Depending on where you purchased your computer they may have an update site that you can use for the bios, call and ask.

The best way to upgrade the BIOS is to download it from your motherboard's manufacturer's website. On their website, search in downloads or support for your specific motherboard model.

This way you'll know that the BIOS will work on your motherboard. Also usually they have release notes which you can read to find out what bugs have been fixed since.

Regarding your CPU speed, you may like to double check the settings in your BIOS eg. multiplier or FSB.
