A guy friend wants to get me a birthday gift. I love to read and learn. I dislike expensive things. He wants to get me jewelry( or so I've heard) but although I own jewelry I don't like expensive stuff. I prefer cheap sterling silver jewelry. The most expensive jewelry I own is a $15 sterling silver ring. I like silver and dislike gold, pearls, gems and any other jewelry. I hate shopping and expensive clothes. I think it's a waste of money. I'm just content with the simple things but he wants to get me something awesome. I hate it when people spend money on me. Last year my 5 year old nephew bought a book on Hawaiian history at a thrift store for $1.50, I was so happy and read the entire book that day. I'm sentimental and my family knows it. My neices know I like to write and wrote me a short story with me as a main character and theyre only 9! I almost cried! If you were him and going for something expensive what would it be? I'm worried he'll spend money he doesn't have.

If you are really worried that he will spend money on you that he doesnt have, then sit down with him and tell him. Tell him that you dont like expensive things, and you would not feel comfortable taking it. If he is truely your friend then he will understand and appreiciate your honesty.

Asking us what he might buy makes me think that you really do want something expensive from him...which is fine, but just be honest.

Also remember that when a friend gives you an expensive gift, more often than not. they are looking for something in return....just rmember that

Many men don't listen or think the same as women. I would suggest he take you to the jewelers and let you pick out what you want. Sterling silver is not junk and not always cheap. Then pick out a nice ring or maybe earrings with a small matching necklace.

Hmmm, why don't you tell him, back through the grapevine, that you don't want jewelry?

You are unusual; most women loooove to receive jewelry. Also he may be trying to impress you with what he views as a nice gift if he's interested in you romantically.

Remember, it's the thought that counts even if they spend a lot! :)

Let him decide what is to expensive, its his way of displaying that he cares.... trust me, guys only regret what they give their girl when she rejects it~ An awesome gift, is always his time - go with him to a special place, the beach for example, watch a sunset, share a picnic and accept graciously what he offers when it is given with love.
