I believe when a man becomes a King, it is he who makes his wife a Queen, (or the government in the case of the King not being an absolute monarch). Philip is the Prince Consort, I believe; a title decided on by the UK government and the Queen, most likely before their marriage. As it has been decided that Camilla will never be Queen of England, even though there are other circumstances preventing her from having that title, the agreement was made before the marriage to make it all legal and binding.

I think he could be called the "Prince Consort" for example Prince Albert was the Prince Consort of Queen Victoria.
The Duke of Edinburgh - Prince Philip, is just referred to as the queen's consort - though that wasn't on the official webpage of the royal family. Of course, Prince Philip was a prince by birth, but renounced his title on becoming a UK subject. I believe the Queen had to "make" him a Prince again.
I guess it's a bit sexist in a way - the man can't be called King when marrying the Queen, possibly because "King" is seen as a title with more power than that of Queen - and maybe there are fears that he would take over the show (for want of a better description).
On the other hand there is no problem with a woman being Queen when her husband is King - she has a lesser position?
I don't know what the position would be if the man wasn't royal in the first place before he married the Queen. More than likely that wouldn't be allowed and the lady may have to abdicate and become a Mrs......
Just my tangled opinion!

Queen Elizabeth's husband is Prince Phillip. When a man marries a Queen, he cannot become King; but when a woman marries a King, she can become Queen. I'm not sure why and I searched a few sites on the 'net trying to figure it out, but I couldn't get a clear answer.

A man doesn't become King when he marries a reigning Queen because the title of king outranks that of queen. In this case it is the queen who holds the title, so he becomes prince consort (or whatever title is used in that country).
It's completely sexist, but the rules were not made in modern times.

It depends, If the king of the land possesses more than one state for example the king is not only the king of Dk he is as well as the king of Danouworth, then the new queen must be very lucky for the extravagant gift. If the king of the state has no property thus only ascended by parliamentary, well then most probably just invent it for sake of just to attached to the name as the queen escort.
If I were to be the Queen I think I can afford to gift a beloved not just the kings title, A captain of my heart as well including its sacristans. what do you think?

he is made "Prince of the United Kingdom" because a King would have a higher status than a queen. Therefore is made a prince to show that he is only the spouse of the monarch.
God Save the Queen!
