Other countries are apparently more educated then us. We still have apes because we evolved along a different line. We didn't evolve from apes. Darwin did not refute evolution on his death bed. That is a myth. All of your questions have long since been answered by science. http://pointofinquiry.org I've noticed that everybody on here has been agreeing that evolution is just a theory, but scientists now say it is NOT just a theory anymore!!!! And neither by the way, is relativity. You still hear of Germ theory and I'm sure you know germs aren't just theoretical.

Wow, there are so many flaws in this argument. I guess I will address them one by one:
Evolution is just a theory: Yeah, of course it is. A scientific theory is something that has been tested and observed. How about the theory of relativity???
If evolution is true, why do we still have apes?: Humans did not evolve from apes, we have a common ancestor.
How come evolution is no longer happening?: It IS! We observe it all the time in fast replicating organisms like bacteria. We can also see emerging species too, for example recently the apple maggot fly. Organisms are undergoing constant evolution, just at different rates.
How can the eye form from nothing?: Evolution is not a one step process. There are incremental mutations, an eye doesn't just appear from nothing. By the way, the irreducible complexity arguement is void here. A low functioning eye is better than no eye, and there are many different types of eyes in nature. By examining those, it is easy to see how our eyes evolved.
You think whales used to be cows? Please!: No you idiot. Of course not. The higher organisms have common ancestors.
You think we came from goo?: Maybe. Did you know amino acids will form with organic molecules and electricity alone? A simple hollow ball of fatty acids will as well (a possible precursor of the cell).
Did you know Charlie Darwin said evolution was NOT true on his deathbed?: THIS IS FALSE! Any credible Christian will admit that this is a made up story. No one actually believes this story.
Get your facts straight. Try educating yourself instead of spouting off the nonsense you hear. Read a book.

I think dave s is a prime example of how america's schools are failing our children, and how public science education is in the kindest of words lacking in america. Also, dave s, please try to understand the theroy of which you speak before you critique it. Don't just listen to what others are saying on their website or at some other venue, look into it for yourself. Each of your questions shows your lack of any understanding of the topic, like why is evolution no longer happening. Well our small life-time, about 8 decades, is no where near the timescale of evolution, about hundreds to thousands of decades at least.
PS God is just a theory, from some book that people still read that was written not that long ago by a bunch of guys and was agreed upon a little while after as to what can be in the book and what cannot. People who read this book still don't agree about nearly anything in it, save the theory of god which has no empirical proof, but that's ok to them since even thinking about proof is beside the point of the book because the book tells them so. There are these ten rules that you have to follow, because the book says so, because if you don't bad things will happen, since the books writer told someone who told a bunch of other people so a long time ago. Bad things won't happen right now, but they could, but they generally don't. They will happen when you die, which of course is when you can tell no one of it. But that doesn't matter because it is true, because the book says so. The guy who the book talks about knows everything, since he created everything, and thus somehow knows (because he just does) what you are going to do. But he's cool with it, as long as you pray to him as his unquestioning follower. Shall I go on?
Remember anything can be put in a bad light if put forth in a negative way, even the most cherished of ideas or beliefs throughout human history, recent or not so recent. Ask your questions in a respectful manner and people will answer in kind. Continue with your method, and those on this forum or any other will see right through what you are trying to do. But really this is assuming that you will actually read this. And we all know what it is to assume even this much, it makes an a** out of u and me.

Because they evolved from our common ancestor too. We humans got smarter. The great apes, including chimpanzees, got stronger. They are stronger than us humans. (A 180-pound chimp would wipe the floor with a 180-pound human, even a college wrestler.) I don't expect you to believe that, but if you try hard enough you can understand it.
Here is a little something extra for you, what the Cajuns call "lagniappe", like the free cookie the baker gives the kids when Mom buys a big birthday cake:
Back in 1776, monarchists (Monarchists are people who want to be ruled by a king or queen, not butterfly fanciers.) argued against democracy as a form of government. They said it was absurd to believe that "All men are created equal" because anyone could see men came in different heights, weights and colors. Case closed.
My point is not about democracy. It is about debate. Before you argue about something, you should understand it. If you don't understand it, you'll look foolish. One night on the "Saturday Night Live" TV show, Gilda Radner argued vehemently against the "Deaf Penalty", instead of the "Death Penalty". She looked absurd and we all laughed until the beer came out our noses, which was what she wanted. You don't want people to laugh at you.
In a serious debate, you should understand the other side. Note that I didn't say "Believe". Understanding is not the same as believing. If you were to study 20th century European Political history, you would have to understand several forms of government: communism (the USSR), fascism (Germany, Italy), socialism (Lots of countries), socialist democracy, capitalistic democracy and constitutional monarchy. You would not believe in all of them; you COULD not believe in all of them at once. If you tried, your head would explode. You would, however, have to understand their basic concepts.
If you were to study comparative religion, you would have to understand what Jews, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, Taoists and Confucians believe. You would not have to convert to a new religion every week, but you would have to understand the other ones. You would not get very far in your studies if you dismissed all the other ones as "wrong". They believe their path is the right one just as strongly as you believe your path is the right one.
99% of the biologists alive today believe that species evolve, and that the theory of evolution is the best explanation we have for the diversity of life. Christian biologists, Jewish biologists, Muslim biologists, Hindu biologists, Buddhist biologists; Australian, Bolivian and Chinese biologists; 99% of them believe it is the best explanation. Yes, it is only a theory. Planetary motion - the theory that the earth went around the sun, not vice versa - was only a theory for a long time. Some people still don't believe it.
If you are truly curious, ask your minister to give you a short, reasoned explanation of evolution. Tell him you don't want to believe it, of course; you just want to understand it. If he says he can't because it is wrong, he is as ignorant as those monarchists I mentioned above.
By the way, this question gets asked so often that some answerers in Religion & Science have made a drinking game of it - much like the TV show "Frasier", when Frasier, Niles and Martin all watched "Antiques Road Show" together. In the episode, every time someone said "veneer" they would all take a drink; Niles and Frasier of a premier crux, Martin of Raineer Ale. You may get some answers that say "Swig" or "Gulp" or "Thanks for the excuse to drink". That's what they mean. If you do a search on "still monkies", "still monkeys" and "still apes" you'll get roughly 2 - 3 per day since YA started.

Evolution is happening:
Natural selection is causing the earth to lose many endangered species, as they cannot cope with the selective pressures exerted upon them by humans maybe.
Evolution is incredibly slow, happening over tens of thousands of years. Just because you can't see evidence of it during your lifetime doesn't mean that it is not happening.
I also agree with you that evolution is foolish, as it is a completely randomised process, it has no intelligence behind it whatsoever (Highly inefficient!),
unless you believe in God:
It is possible that God controls this process, and all processes in the Universe, but if you are talking in terms of the bible being absolute truth, this is severely misguided. Basically the bible is a mixture of peoples thoughts and opinions at the time, standardised over the ages.
God could be involved, Don't fight science, it is likely to be mostly correct, but it has not disproved the existence of God (or Jesus etc etc)
We will never know, but don't "pidgeon-hole" God. Adam and Eve were only about 4000 years ago according to the bible. We know that if God exists, he has been doing his work for many millions of years.

I am a Christian and do believe that God created the world and universe as we know it. That being said, creatures do evolve. Scientists do find sub-species of insects and animals that did not exist before. So to say that evolution is not true is not right. Maybe God created things to grow and evolve as time "evolves". To be honest, we just don't know and to throw barbs at each other about religion and evolution just seems foolish to me.

Dave,
with all due respect, there are authors of information who want you to believe they are authorities on a subject and those who just regurgitate what they've heard.
Just because you've been educated on a particular subject, does not mean its correct.
Please do your homework on your own (outside of your sphere of influence). Then, you can look in the mirror and say, "I would believe someone like me."

Why did every one all of a sudden just choose to accept EVOLUTION??? If evolution if JUST a theory, and the bible is actual HISTORICAL FACT then why aren't schools at least letting kids learn BOTH sides of the possibilities???

ok..evolution is totally untrue and cannot be accepted..
things that can be accepted is mutations..
dont u people know that from the fossil of >40 billions years show that the dragonfly and sharks and the ant are still the same as nowadays..so no evolution!! it is just when time passing from billion years to years some of the species is replaced with other species..this is GOD's work..
from research of some scientist shows that the bone that the former archeologist claimed that is a homo sapien bone is actually a pig bone!!not a human..
darwin is acually a materialism who only accept that all things are created by themselve and have no owner to take care of them.
from the research of Ibnu Sina..an islam scientist..show that human behaviour consist of animal behaviour and normal human behaviour..eg of animal behaviour is when we have an intercourse..so from that darwin trying hard to tell himself that maybe we actually came from animal..
our mind and thinking are limited..so dont think beyond our capability because we dont deserve that..only GOD deserve that..
example of mutation is that rabbits can white fur in artic and brown fur in tropic..it is because the cell mutate to help to mantain the num of that species..
this is one of the special things about our environment..she will always try to make the environment stable..example..
why group1 elements in periodic table occur naturally in charge of +1? it is because they want to make the electronic configuration of its own become octet and so will have a stable configuration..who remove the electron?yeah..mother nature made it and who made mother nature?
we cant even count how many hair do we have on our head although the hair and our brain are separated only by a skull..so we dont deserve to have ability to think beyond that think..
another things is..materialism dont accept creator because they dont see the process of making that thing..but if we slap each other faces, can we see the pain that we caused?the pain is there but we cant still see it although it is on our own skin..should i trust u are in pain?can i slap u again? because i dun see where the pain is..
