Yesterday I got home the car drained the battery engine died in front of my house in a snow storm Lucky Me. Immedietly tried starting and it was dead. Tried again in an hour and it started but everything drained again. I repaced the battery and the alternator, now the car starts fine but battery light is coming on and off and the battery needle gage goes low then high, it keeps happening.

Where was the alternator purchased? From "Bozo Zone" or the Ford dealer parts department? I have seen far too many defective aftermarket alternators replaced with the more expensive OEM Ford alternator, and not have any further issues. Are the battery connections tight, and free of corrosion?

Seems like dud electrical connections, dodgy voltage regulation or perhaps the alternator diodes are poor, if they are not attached to the alt. and have been replaced with it. Were all wires tightened up after the new alt. was installed? As duster says, it is possible that the replacement alt. is faulty, but I'd look elsewhere first.

when the battery light comes on, it means that the field circuit in the alternator has stopped working.
I have bought rebuilts that actually die, after they are installed. check em out. just because they are new or rebuilt, does not mean they are any good.

check or have a mechanic check the connections to the battery and alternator, they may be loose, or you may have a faulty alternator.
