my 2 year contract is going to be up for cingular in june. if i dont cancel the service or renew it and just use it for july and august which are 2 extra months over the 2 years, will i b able to cancel it at the end of august without being charged a cancellation fee?

Yes, you will be able to cancel without a cancellation fee. Just be aware though about this: your account may have promotions tied to it (like free mobile to mobile calls, or free nights and weekends). Many times the promotions expire at the same time that your contract does...so if you use your phone during night and weekend times, you may actually be using your peak time minutes. Just be aware is all I'm saying.

No you don't have to be in contract the use the phone. You can cancel it whenever you won't, as long as you don't sign a new contact there will be no additional fee.
