Almost every night this week, my four month old has vomited right after the last nursing session, right before bed. He feeds, I burp him and rock him a little, keep him upright for a good while, and then as soon as his little head hits the crib sheet, his eyes open and he begins to spit up. And it's not just a little tiny bit of spit up, it's a decent amount. He's a big baby, he's not losing weight, and he rarely cries after it happens. In fact, he easily puts himself to sleep right after. But why is this happening? It's such a strange pattern, as he's not vomiting after any other feed during the day. Could it be something I am eating? Is he overeating and as a result, vomiting? Help!

Thanks to those of you who so kindly pointed out that I should take him to a doc to find out. I appreciate the camaraderie and support of you wise moms! Actually, I've spoken to the doc in the past when he's vomited and he has said not to worry. As long as he's gaining weight and happy, he's fine. I just hoped to find some moms who could offer support/advice, not sarcasm. Thanks anyway!

Well, that last rant was just for those who so smugly suggested I take him to the ped, not for those who nicely suggested it. I need to go to bed. I am too sensitive when I'm tired.

My little man did the same thing. If he's not losing weight and looks fine and content I wouldn't worry. You probably have lots of milk and he wants it all :) Now if he seems to be losing weight and doesn't seem right to you, he may have reflux. Just keep an eye on him, make sure he has enough wet/poopy diapers and gaining weight normally. You are a great mama :)

As long as he's not feverish, or acting lethargic, it's probably nothing too serious. My first guess would be reflux. My son (who's now 16 months) had horrible gastro-esophegal reflux & had to be medicated. His was actually painful & he cried & cried. For reflux, try elevating his mattress so that he's lying at a 45 degree angle.

The only other thing I can think of is over-feeding. Have you recently started him on rice-cereal? Perhaps he's having a slight reaction to starting on solids?

If he's good & happy, I wouldn't be overly concerned. In any case, yes, it's a good idea to see his pedi...but I wouldn't run to the ER! Just continue monitoring him for mood-temperature-weightloss/gain.

Congestion or a respiratory infection can lead to vomiting, especially during a coughing fit. A urinary tract infection and even an ear infection can sometimes cause nausea and vomiting. Throwing up can also be a symptom of pneumonia, meningitis, appendicitis, and, in rare cases, Reye's syndrome.
If your otherwise healthy baby throws up right after eating or out of the blue, chances are gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is to blame. Reflux happens when the muscle between your baby's esophagus and stomach isn't working properly, allowing food and gastric acid to gurgle up from the stomach into the throat.

Maybe reflux?
Try elevating one end of his mattress. Put a rolled up blanket under the mattress. Then when you put him down, put him with his head to the elevated side. See if that helps.

Is there any common food or drink that you've been having every night since its been happening? you should try to think and if there is, see what happens if you cut it out of your diet for a while. if not, i think you should talk to a doctor just to be safe.

Have you taken him to see his pediatrician? If not then you need too, cause something is wrong . Maybe its your milk since he is doing this when you feed him, have you tried him on forumla?

Talk too his dr and get some suggestions from them

Is he on his belly? My girls are spitter-uppers, and they always spit up in the crib after they roll on their bellies. It's the position.

It's probably reflux, prop your babies up with books at one end so that he isn't lying down flat.
That might help :)
