Put me in the love 'em category. I like the dark stuff, horror, sci-fi and mystery. The only draw back is that I drive truck and drive for 9 or 10 hour a day sometimes, and I can go through several books in a week.

A friend (fellow driver) turned me on to them by lending one to me. I think it was called Rebel and the author was Coonts or Coots or something. And I was hooked.

From there I started buying some, I've got piles of them around here. Then found a great selection at my local library and took allot out. I had to get special permision to take out 5 or 6 at a time, but once I explained that I was a long distance trucker and was gone for a week at a time they let me. I also downloaded a bunch got a cd player that played MP3 discs in my truck and burned them onto a MP3 disc so I didn't have to change disc or tapes all the time.

I've heard every Stephen King, the only one I didn't like was one of his latest, Lisey's Story. Through the hole story I kept thinking "this doesn't sound like Stephen King somebody else wrote this". It just didn't seem to be the same style of writing.

I've also heard some of Phillip Margolin, I really liked Sleeping Beauty that Suzanne Houston does an excellent job reading or "performing" if you prefer.

I'm to the point now that I am looking up some of the readers that I enjoyed to see what else they have done, to get into some new stuff.

My hubby thinks they are great especially as he is a long distance HGV driver and gets fed up of listening to the radio, so i go to the library and borrow 10 at a time usually last him a few weeks, though i have depleted all the stock at local library and need to find new ones lol.

Great question. To list a few Clavelle's Shogun, Conan Doyle's Hound of the Baskervilles, Christie's murders, also I have the complete Fawlty Towers. If you have Digital Radio, I recommend BBC 7 and One Word, two excellent spoken word stations with novels and comedy galore.

No not really but I could try one next time I'm on the move but wouldn't it just be better to just read it? I love how when two people have read the same book but pronounce names and such stuff their own way. That wouldn't happen with an audio would it?

The Phillip Pullman Dark Materials audio books are great. But they are pretty expensive so I'd check them out at your local library.

Audio books rock. The Memory of Running is probably the best ever. If you like sci-fi, Ender's Game is great on audio.

When E.B. White was recording his audiobook of Charlotte's Web, they had to make several different takes of the chapter where Charlotte dies because he kept tearing up.
I love that!
