Your issue is a software problem not a hardware problem so "binning" this one isn't necessary. Check your c: drive and see if you find a folder called c:\i386 or c:\windows\i386 or something similar.... The i386 folder contains all of the installation files for windows xp. Here's a link to a website that will allow you to use these files and your product key to reinstall windows xp http://www.easydesksoftware.com/recovery.htm#XP

HI,
You binned the wrong part. Try installing a Linux distro on your old PC and watch the hardware faults disappear.
My favourite is Mandriva, but there are lots to choose from.

did the laptop get drop or bumped lately if so you might have loosen one of the memory modules. if so you will have to open up the back of it and take out the memory modules and reinsert them. or maybe one of them is no good any more . if that is the case you will have to try each memory module by it self and see if they all work if they don't you may have to replace some of them hope this helps
have a nice day

When you go in to safe mode does it ask about system restore? if so try taking it back a few days and see if that solves it.

Did you put ANY files that was on your PC onto the laptop???
It sounds like you have transferred a virus!
Get a anti virus program, ANY anti-virus program and run it!

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
