when the US government is hell bent to break the country, it will happen. In 1994 Clinton signed the NAFTA agreemnet with a 3rd world country (Mexico), since then we have lost 4 million factory jobs and still losing 200,000 per year, the US government allowed the Asian Catfish Market to destroy the American Market and American Catfish Farmers. the only way you can have a successful free trade with a 3rd world country is for the US to lower itself and the 3rd world country raise itself to a level playing field, for example if you and I were into manufacturing product A, and both our cost of manufacturing this product was $150, then you decided to move to Mexico and your cost to manufacture this product is $55 now, so anytime you get ready to put me out of business, all you have to do is start selling your product for $150, which leads me to either go to Mexico or go out of business, so far the problem has been greed by american manufactures moving to Mexico, because they are still charging us the same price, for a product that cost hem 2/3 less to make and reaping great profits, but the time will come that they will start putting a lot of pressure on the US factories, by selling at their cost and US factories will become extinct. What bothers me the most about factories leaving the US is , what happens if we get involved in a world war again and have to depend for forign countries to supply our military with planes, tanks, etc. as far as some of the answers have mentioned eduaction, well they say we will replace our lost factiry jobs with service jobs, well you don't need much education to work at Burger King or mow the lawn. So what has education got to do with it, when your country has no jobs requiring an education

Well nobody's on top forever. I think the US could have stayed on top for a couple of hundred years but unfortunately the voters made some very bad choices. Maybe if someone wants to establish a democracy some time in the future they will make sure that tax exempt churches actually do not do politics, and ban idiots like Rush Limbaugh from the public airwaves. It will be a long, slow, agonizing decline. Quite sad to witness. I guess it was for the people of Rome, too, watching their beloved nation decay because of corrupt, evil leaders.

I wouldn't go third-rate but maybe second, as far as economics go, our economy has peaked already as a creator of exportable goods, and the dollar will only continue to weaken against growing economies in China and the EU. As far as a political power, W has managed to knock us down a few pegs, and for a while I think, but the US I think will remain a pawerful influence on the rest of the worls for a long time to come.

This empire will fall like all others, most recently the Soviet Union. Especially politically we are marginalizing ourselves, but that cannot be helped since that seems to be what the people want. Our true power came when we believed in science and technology, but we seem to be abandoning those beliefs in favor of spiritualism, like the Islamic world did 1000 years ago. A shame.

If we can hang in for another couple of years we'll be okay. If we get what we have been getting for the last 6 years I think we could describe the US that way. Now, with the rubber stamp Congress partially gone and oversight returned we may be saved from that fate and recover where we have fallen.

Depends, depends, depends. If we continue down the road of not graduating enough competent people in the coming generations, slacking off on productivity, innovation, continue to spend way more than we can afford, get deeper indebted to foreign countries, do not reconcile our trade deficits, continue to devalue the dollar, etc., and other countries such as China, India, Russia, and the EU continue to become more competitive and innovative, then yep.

Absolutely, Bush Falwell and robertson are goosestepping us into the Third World. It is a myth that buying foriegn products helps our economy. The whole system is based on a flawed premis. WALMART has done more to destroy our country than OSAMA

All nations economy goes up and down. No democratic nation has ever lasted ( we have lasted as long as we have because we were really a republic and have only more recently started being much more democratic)
So of course we will, not because of this party or that part but cause no nation or governent lasts for a very long time

Not third rate, just lesser of a world standing. We seem to be dumbing down our school system while heading towards more technology jobs. They don't seem compatible.
