Nothing happens. The consumer that bought the mattress can remove the tag. It says it right there on the tag. I'd type out the exact words the tag says, but I've already cut mine off.

It means it's against the law for anyone to remove besides the comsumer or the person that bought it...because when they buy the product they must have the tags there so they can read the warnings and such...but the person that purchased it can remove them

Yes. I like to live dangerously and live life on the edge, so I rip those ugly tags off.

It states that only the consumer can remove the tags. BUT I do sneak over to the bedding section with my scissors! It's just to hard to resist.

You know, thats a VERY good question!! I would say no, but only because of the experience that I had a couple of years back. My husband and I had just went to our local Furniture store, and had decided to buy Feather-free, extra-down bed pillows. Mind you, they each cost 100.00 A PIECE!! Anyway, we deicided that we would remove the tags when we got home because they have the tendency to scratch you when you sleep on them. As soon as we got home, we raced up the stairs, tore the packaging off of the bed pillows, and removed our tags. Suddenly, we both hear sirens careening into our driveway. We hop off the bed, race down our stairs, and open the door. And there, standing on our doorstep is a female police officer asking us if she could talk to us for a minute. We let her in, she sits down on our couch, takes off her hat, and tells us that we are going to jail. My husband and I look at each other quizzically, and start laughing. When we looked at the policewoman, there wasnt a smile on her face. Suddenly, we didnt find the situation as funny as before. My husband asks her what the visit was about and she then begins questioning us about our recent trip to the furniture store, and if we had recently purchased two feather-free, white, down size pillows. When my husband and I answered in the affirmative, she then proceeded to tell us that we had somehow walked out of the store with out paying for our merchandise. I guess in all the confusion( because the store was REALY CROWDED), my husband and I had had the sales clerk ring up our purchases, but we hadnt paid him for the two pilows. The policewoman then proceeded to ask us where the pillows were, so we told her that they were upstairs. My husband runs back up, grabs the pillows, and hands them over to the policewoman. After staring at them for the longest time, she then tells us that we would have to go back to the furniture store, and pay for them in less than 24 hrs. We agreed that we would, and we apoligized for the inconveince. After assuring us that it was no problem, we walked her to the door. Just as she headed back to her police car, she turns to us and said "In case you didnt know this, but tearing the tags off of pillows is a federal offense, and is subject to up to two-thousand dollars in fines." As soon as she said that, she got in her car, drove away, and was gone. My husband and I looked at each other, burst out laughing, and closed the door. We later talked about how she was willing to forgive us for taking merchandise w/out paying for it, but how ripping the tag off of a pillow is a actual offense. Wild story, I know, but true.
