For a people that was subjugated, enslaved, beaten and disenfranchised - the history of the Confederacy represents a past history of abuse, neglect, terror and violence.

A great many African Americans are descendants of those who had been held in slavery. While slavery is something that has been practiced forever all over the world, it is something that particularly in the American South that has left a scar on the American conscience.

Many African Americans are offended by the display of the flag of states that seceded from the Union to support states rights over the right of the Federal Union to make and uphold laws that they considered to be biased toward Northern interests and aims.

That, unfortunately, included slavery and all of it's attendant circumstance and ills.

History is written, by and large, by whomever was in power. Because the black men, women and children were predominately illiterate, we have very few records of their views on the matter. While history is a fact, it's circumstances are fluid and subject to change as more becomes known about the people, their lives and the realities of what really happened.

We can't change what happened, but we have a responsibility to go forward and be willing to both acknowledge the past and work together to make a future that has room for everyone.

I agree. I have a Confederate Flag that flies under my American flag everyday. Yes there have been complaints but,
I have more rights than they do! Just go to your local food stamp office you will always see more black than white! That is just one of the reasons this country is going broke!!! Some have even tried taking it down only to become real good friends with my pistol. There has been three attempts so
far. IF YOUR BLACK DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND STAY

One book said all greeks were forced to be slaves to Rome. and greeks look pretty white to Me. Spain, Gaul, even Mighty germany could have had tribesman become slaves.

So when did white slavery end in europe?

Being enslaved is a personal prejudice? Being treated like a second-class citizen based on just your skin color is a personal prejudice? It is a fact that it happened. States are now apologizing for it. If it happened to your ancestors, you would be singing a different tune.

Ok, I am just answering for two points, cuz this is soo crazy.
I'm not even black and I think it is. Blacks have always been treated wrongly, and you might not see it, but it still goes on today.
