I do want a macbook, but it will take me forever to save up 1100$ for the macbbok and a router. However I could get PC laptop, I'm thinking an acer aspire, for $550, add a router and 650$. I could probably afford it by christmas if i get my parents and aunt to chip in. And the 550$ one pretty much has the same specs as the macbook, 60gb HD, 512mb ram, 1.8ghz processor.

Should I wait it out (for a looong time) and get a macbook, or get a PC laptop in the near future?

Mac or PC is not the issue here .... the issue is defining your priorities.

If it's meant as a toy ... wait & get what really makes you happy.
If you need it for school or work ... get what you can afford ASAP.

Such is life, my friend.

I would get the PC with windows XP and not Vista since the specifications you list seem unlikely to work that well. While the mac will arguably give you a better operating system, the cost for me wouldn't justify spending twice as much on it. If you have always wanted a macbook, and will eventually breakdown and get one I would say start saving now because when you do actually get one you will be very satisfied.

... i think you've already answered your own question. Pay 600 more for a laptop that has the same specs and that you probably can't afford... or go for the more practically priced laptop that has everything that you want and that you can get by christmas with help from the fam... hmmm...

..... go for the pc....... It will perform comparably to the Mac, and cost a lot less money.
Make sure you pay an extra $150, so that your warranty jump's from 1 to 3 year's part's and labour,... and this will ensure you thousand's of hour's of trouble and worry free computer use....
