It could be a lot of different things; various rodents (mice, rats, squirrles, etc), larger infestions of various insects (termites, bees, ants, roaches, etc) or some relatively odd and rare thing which would be in the other category (something electrical creating a sound or something to do with the house plumbing fixtures, etc).

Your best bet will probably be to call a pest control company of some sort and have them come out and do an inspection (look for damages, droppings, etc). And then proceed from there.

Regardless of whether its animal or insect if its living in your house and its not paying rent its got to go, the sooner the better you don't want something damaging the house and making things unsanitary for you and your family.

Mice, bees, you name it if it lives it could be inside your walls. Contact a builder or Pest Controller to check and report on your problem. Get a quote first and then check with another agents to see if they agree.

it's possibly mice but I think if it was mice you would see some sign of them around the house such as droppings or getting into food. You could also have squirrels that get in from a hole into the attic. You also could have bats.
