Huckleberries?

2007-03-17 13:22:40 · 36 answers · asked by 4kids2pay4 7 in Entertainment & Music Polls & Surveys

Huckleberries are very similar to blueberries; but much smaller in size. They grow on a small bush, typically on hillsides and lower slopes of mountains. They will vary in color from bright red, to deep purple and into blues. For my European friends they are similar to your bilberries.

The fruit of the various species of plant called huckleberry is generally edible. The berries are small and round, usually less than 5 mm in diameter, and contain 10 relatively large seeds. Berries range in color according to species from bright red, through dark purple, and into the blues. In taste the berries range from tart to sweet, with a flavor similar to that of a blueberry, especially in blue/purple colored varieties. Huckleberries are a favorite of many animals such as bears.
I had to look up huckleberries, to see a picture. I am sure I have not eaten any of them.

Yes, Huckleberries are very much like Blueberries but are smaller and not so juicy. Huckleberries have no commercial value but are a nice trail snack.

Yes. My neighbor has a wonderful bush of it and every year since I was little I go and at some right off of the tree. But I MUST make sure that I get a sweet one. Most of them are sour. Birds love them! They remind me of summer. Good question.
