It is the bowl-shaped bony structure at the base of the spinal column. The sex of a human skeleton can be determined with almost 100% of certainty by an osteologist, physical or forensic anthropologist, or a medical examiner just by looking at its pelvis {even if it is fragmented or some parts are missing}. If you are thin, you can feel the iliac crests of your pelvis {the prominent bones that give the rounded shape to your hips}. Try the links below to see some illustrations of the human pelvis:

It's the bone that makes up your pelvic area. You can feel your pelvis easily in your hips. That hard hip bone? Yeah, that's your pelvis. Your spine is attached to it, as well as your legs. It's relevant to women specifically because your pelvis shifts when you become pregnant to accomodate the extra weight, and also because the baby has to squeeze down between the bones of your pelvis to get out when you give birth.

The pelvis is the bony structure located at the base of the spine The pelvis incorporates the socket portion of the hip joint for each leg (in bipeds) or hind leg (in quadrupeds). It forms the lower limb (or hind-limb) girdle of the skeleton.
